In case you think travel equals tourism, think again.
In order to build a sustainable tourism, we first need to understand what 'travel' means and why we do it 🕵️‍♀️
This is what what On The Green Track is about and Ep. 9 is getting us one step closer to widen the horizon 🌞

💥NEW ARRIVAL🌱

Together with our follow traveller Continues Music composer and pianist Lubomyr Melnyk, we explore and discover the connections between travel and music 🎶 🎼

Give a warm welcome to Travel & Continues Music, one of the conversations that have touched me the most on this journey ❤️

As seen on the picture, Lubomyr shared some of his music during the conversation also, which makes a special moment in the episode.
What can I say other than: Enjoy the ride! 🚀

💥 ⏰ Ep. 9th will be released on Feb. 20 th.
!

In the midst of the current European context and in a deep climate crisis, in which ‘travel’ needs to be taken back from the tourism industry and re-conceptualized, I think that this episode is doing a good job getting us there 🚀

We get a personal, intimate and raw insight from the Ukranian pianist Lubomyr Melnyk on what it means to play the piano as a form of journeying 🙏
This episode is not “just” a conversation, it is an experience, which makes us reflect on how music can change us, like we believe going traveling change us... ✨

In this episode, we pose the following questions of:

Why do we always travel from the context of where we were raised?

Why is our origin the destination we never seem to leave?

Does tourism actually make us sensitive of the beauty of the world, or does it, in fact, numb us towards it?

Stay tuned 🕵️‍♀️

Our next stop in the second season of On The Green Track is to explore what looks like on a global scale. 🚀NEW EPISODE ALERT💥

Is travel like a conscious state of dreaming? 🧐

Find out in the newly released second part of the conversation with professor in art history Geoff Lehman teaching at Bard College Berlin.

For this part of the conversation, we dive further into the question of perspective, and how art's perspective and representation of space actually have an influence on how we perceive, navigate and make sense of a new travel destination.
We will also talk a lot about disorientation, the disorientation we may experience when we travel and how this experience is similar to the journey we go on mostly every night: when we are dreaming✨

Well, the episode is out there guys, so join us on this exploration of what travel means to us today 🌱

* This is also the last episode On The Green Track Fall season 🍁🍂
Our journey will continue in 2022 and there are already some interesting titles in the pipeline! But until then we will have a surprise so stay tuned on this channel to learn more and stay updated :)

Thank you for all of your support, I really appreciate it 🙏

The next episode will Sunday Oct. 17th 🥳

"Travel and The Perspective"

This will mark the second part of our journey with professor Lehman from College in Berlin and the episode will take us in a bit different direction, so this is why it got a new title 👌

For this part of the conversation, we explore further the question of perspective, and how art's perspective and representation of space may have an influence on how we perceive, navigate and make sense of a new travel destination.
I think we just got one step closer to understand what travel means and why we do it 🌱

🚀 Teaser Alert 💥
TOMORROW AT 10:00 AM: Travel and the Imagination
EPISODE 5 🥳

Our guest for this epsiode is professor Geoff Lehman 🙏
Geoff did his PhD in art history in Columbia University, with a dissertation on the relationship between perspective and Renaissance landscape painting.
Before coming to Bard College in Berlin, Geoff taught art history for several years in Columbia University’s core curriculum. His research interests include the theory and history of perspective, landscape painting and land art, the phenomenology of art and of viewer response, and the relationship between art and philosophy 🤓

The show's is the first episode out of two:
1. Travel and the Imagination
2. Travel and the Perspective (new title!)
These are recorded in a charming old kitchen in Berlin, which makes it the first episodes to be recorded in the same room 🎉
I think that really adds to conversation but it also adds another sounds layer of coffeee mugs and a slightly unstabel table ✨ take it in as a part of our journey ;)

The guest on Travel and The Imagination will be the art historian and professor Geoff Lehman 🙏 !

Initially, I wanted to publish the episode this Sunday, but I decided to cut it differently and keep more of the conversation's length.
So now, it will be published in two different episodes 🥳
For this reason, the first episode will instead be on Sunday Oct. 3th.!
1. Travel and the Imagination
2. Travel and Dreaming

As in episode 2+3, Geoff and I will look at travel from the perspective of art in order to understand what travel means to us.

This epsiode is an honest conversation about what it means to travel today in a world of climate changes. Many points from this exchange still sit with me today 🌱

Stay tuned as more information will follow later this week!

BEHIND THE SCENES 🙈

This is a shot from the conversation on Travel and the Concept of Sustainability feat. Louise de Hemmer from .destinations.

It was an honest conversation about the changes we stand in and in front are various and need various of solutions.
We talked about how changing consumption to less plastic or more local products are not the only ways to rethink the travel industry, but those might be some of them 🙏

🎉 Fourth episode is out Travel and the Concept of Sustainability!

In this episode, we explore what 'sustainable' travel actually means and some of the key features, which seem important for the sustainable tourism sector such as: storytelling, identity and the green traveller as a consumer 🌱

Instead of focusing on what is "real" sustainable travel and tourism, we explore how the sustainable tourism sector is trying to implement new practices and change the industry from the inside out 🌎
Together with our guest Louise de Hemmer from .destinations, we ask the question:
Does sustainable travel make us travel abroad less or has it become an unescapable way of forming an identity today?

Louise de Hemmer is managing the Top 100 competition and is the Coordinator for the Marketing team for the Good Travel Guide for .destinations.
Louise gives us a rare insight into the part of the sector, which aims at changing its structures to become more sustainable from the inside out.

I'm looking forward to explore yet another aspect of how we understand and talk about 'travel' today 🚀

🚀 Teaser Alert! 🎉

On Sunday Sep. 12th. the fourth episode will be on air 💥
The theme will be 'Travel and The Concept of Sustainability'
Later this week, I will reveal who the guest for this episode will be 🥳

Why this topic?
To me, the concept of sustainability is one of the many ways we understand ' ' today. It is a an important part of our Green Track Journey, a stop we cannot miss 🌎
It is also a very difficult one.. because what sustainable travel means and if it is possible are open ended questions.
In the mainstream media, can easily get very contentious, but it also dives into essential clues to why we have a tourism sector in the first place.
So, fasten your seatbelts and join us on Sunday 12th for the next episode!

🎉 On Sunday the second section of the conversation on Travel and Landscape Paintings will be released! 🎉

This part of the episode takes on step further in thinking about tourism and its connections to our travel habits and needs today.
Since the conversation with C. Michael Hall, I started to think about how tourism is a symptom / a response to systemic structures that make up our work life, our consumption habits, and the urbanized landscapes, in which many of us live in today...There is so much more to be said, so tune in on Sunday 10:00 CEST. 🙏

🎉 SUNDAY is LAUNCH DAY! 🚀

Today, it's time to launch our new On The Green Track mini-podcast series 🌱
Welcome to the community: Green Tracking Series!🐥

What is that? 🧐
This short-series takes up concepts touched upon On The Green Track conversations. In this way, it becomes more transparent what is meant by the terms used, as these can have different definitions and are applied differently in the tourism and travel sector.
For example: you might book an eco hotel on your holiday destination, and then you read how sustainable tourism research defines 'eco' tourism and suddenly realize: that this definition and how 'eco' is applied in the hotel do not line up 🤨 For this reason, how we apply words and the definition behind them are crucial to think about for us as travel-consumers.
