"You could feel the vibrations from the whale’s song in your chest. Using only our hearing, we swam through the endlessly perfect blue following the song as it grew louder and louder. After so much anticipation and swimming we finally stumbled on one of the most beautiful creatures I’ve ever seen. Time froze for just a minute. We watched as the whale gave us the most memorable show; flopping, turning, breaching, it was the display of a lifetime. Only to disappear into the depths once again, leaving us wanting so much more."

Acrobatic and impressively large, humpback whales are the most abundant baleen whale in the nearshore waters around the Antarctic Peninsula. February and March are the best months for sightings, where you can usually see them diving, breaching (ejecting themselves out of water), spyhopping (lifting their heads out of the water), or lobtailing (slapping their flukes against the water to create noise).
