Entering into Parque Independencia through the Puerta del Conde / Gate of the Count you will see the Alley of Heroes. The Alley of Heroes has the busts of 34 national heroes lining either side of the plaza. These busts include the 7 women and 27 men who helped to make Dominican Republic’s independence and restoration a reality.

Just incase you forgot what Palacio Virreinal Alcázar de Colón / Columbus Royal Palace looks like. It has been under renovation and covered up for it seems like forever.

Weird Wild Stuff (at least for me it was strangely interesting)

I noticed that many ant hills here are not really hills. They make small spots that almost look like they dug up coffee grounds. And coming out from around the wide pile of coffee grounds are vein -like tunnels. Going out from all sides of the mound zig-zagging into nowhere on all sides (I made red lines showing the little tunnels coming out from the mound).

I just thought it was interesting. I used to sit and watch big ant hills being made in USA when I was a kid but there don't resemble those at all. I guess Dominican ants have different home building techniques than Dominican ants...lol

The statue of Padre Francisco Xavier Billini (December 1, 1837 – March 9, 1896) made by French sculptor Ernest Gilbert, stands proudly in the Plaza named after him, Plazoleta Padre Billini. Billini was known as the protector of the poor man.

Padre Billini founded the National Lottery in 1882 to help pay for the poorest patients of the first charity hospital in the Dominican Republic, Hospital de la Beneficencia, later known as Hospital San Andrés.

He wants that coco and he will get that coco!

This man was under the palm and I was watching him. He removed his backpack, took off his shirt, shoes and socks. He threw the big bag over his shoulder and started up that palm tree. That really takes some arm and leg strength.

The Half Marathon / Medio Maratón Claro 2025 is happening. You can see the tents and lots of lights at the Puerta Atarazana where the finish line is located. Lots tents and humans all around as the noise carries across Rio Ozama. The dogs and I heard it all from Plaza Monumento a la Caña at 6AM as we enjoyed the cool grass and the full moon over the city.

Just look at this beautiful face. Rescue Itchy is sound asleep on the Lovey Frog the dogs rescued from the street. Itchy looks so peaceful. Sweet dreams beautiful Itchy.

This is our rescue puppy Itchy. I found her, a tiny puppy, alone in the middle of the street. I moved her to the sidewalk and she followed me and my dogs. I could not abandon her. That was 2 months ago. Look at this little girl now, so happy.

Looking up to the Garita Ozama, the first watchtower of Fuerte Santiago, from Fortaleza Ozama Abajo as the sun looks like fire on the coral wall. The watchtower gave a perfect view of the mouth of Rio Ozama and the Caribbean Sea.

Recycle. Reclaim. Relax. Remember someone's trash could be another's favorite thing. A way to relax and while away the days in the cool, cool shade and maybe see a game of softball played in the field behind. 😁😉

Torre del Homenaje / The Tower of Homage, resembling a medieval castle, was built inside Fortaleza Ozama by Nicolás de Ovando in 1503. Ships were hailed from the top of this monstrous-looking building. It has very little ornamentation and looks very serious and sobering. This tower, with its 2-meter thick walls, was the tallest building (18m) in the entire colony in the 16th century. It was the only building of its type in the New World.

Urbano Gilbert, anti-interventionist fighter, precisely, Jiménez recalled that when he was a deputy, he was one of the promoters of the law so that the Day of Non-aggression against the peoples would be celebrated every April 28. in honor of the martyrs of 1965, “and today it is a reality.”

For his part, the director of Efemérides Patrias, Juan Pablo Uribe, said that the activity coincides with the 56th anniversary of the landing of the United States troops on April 28, 1965, in which they were confronted by the constitutionalist military.
The painting, by the artists Rafael Torres, Valentín Rosario, José Manuel Minier, with the collaboration of Francisca Hidalgo, captures images of the Restoration War and Urbano Gilbert's confrontation during the American intervention in 1916.

Weird Wild Wednesday.
A light that used to be in Plaza Bartolome de las Casas. It reminds me of the Alien Eye that came out of a Spaceship in the 1950's movie War of the Worlds based on a novel by H. G. Wells.
