What about some interesting facts on the Marine Iguanas! 🤓

The Marine Iguanas 🦎 is the only marine species of lizards in the world. They are ectothermic animals, the same as all reptiles. As a result, they need to thermoregulate their activities in order to survive, by behavior. They need to warm up with the sun to the ideal temperature of 35.5C to successfully perform an activity such as feeding, or to even move from one place to another. Their actions are dependent on the water temperature and climate, for example entering the ocean to feed they can lose up to 10C (mainly in the night), due to this they have evolved and adapted their color body to a dark grey for better absorbing the sunlight, for getting an optimal temperature before getting into the ocean for feeding of algae their primary food source, normally the marine iguana only eats once a day but depending on the age and size it could be up to 2 or 3 times. After getting out of the cold waters they would spend the rest of the day lay down on the lava rocks of the shores to warm up.

Galápagos Sea Lion!

They are one of the two types of seal found in Galápagos. They are not ""true"" seals as they are able to rotate their hind flipper under their pelvic girdle and lack the characteristic long, finger-like claws of true seals.

There is a physical difference between the male and female weighing up to four times that of females. The males also have a prominent bump on their forehead. Males tend to hold territories on beaches where females live, as oppose to holding direct harems.

Darwin's Pearl Fact🤓

The configuration of their pelvic girdle allows them to ‘gallop’ across the land, reaching speeds exceeding that of a running person on rocky terrain. 😱

LAS GRIETAS 🌄🐠🐢🦎

Las Grietas is a stretch of inland crystal clear water at the bottom of an Earth fracture found in Santa Cruz Galapagos. Seawater enters the canyon via a pathway full of mangrove trees. And freshwater enters from the opposite direction. The roots of the mangroves filter the seawater and help create a magical turquoise blue, crystal clear, pool that is a favorite destination for swimmers and snorkelers alike. In this site, you might be able to see Marine iguanas, marine turtles, rays, white tip reef sharks, Giant tortoises, and Galapagos hawks.
