In 1800, Alexander Von Humboldt “discovered” the extraordinary spectacle of the native fisherman collecting electric eels (Electrophorus electricus).
This South American specie inhabits the fresh waters of the Amazon rainforest and Orinoco River. Here with the Huaorani, fishing some piranhas and the eel for dinner.

Back in 2016, my friends, Penti and his father Awa, (a known warrior who fought the oil companies settlers during the 70s) showed me a South American (Tapirus terrestris) who regularly visited the community.
Early this year, our dear friend Awa passed away. We always remember the importance of everything he did to protect the Amazon rainforest and how his efforts and his people let us now continue seeing this paradise untouched. Photo
