In Indian culture, the perception of time is unique and distinct from Western perspectives. Time is often seen as more fluid and cyclical rather than strictly linear.
It took me many years to get used to it, but now, to be honest, I even enjoy being late.

Nutmeg is the actual seed of the fruit from the tree Myristica fragrans. It has a warm, sweet, and slightly nutty flavor. In learning more about spices, I discovered that the aril, the red, lacy covering of the nutmeg seed, known as mace, is also used in cooking. Mace provides a very pleasant taste, especially when added to tea along with clove and cardamom.

Riding a bus in India is like stepping into a mini disco. Especially when night falls, the combination of music and blinking lights creates a unique atmosphere. My Japanese guest remarked that it was the most entertaining bus ride she had ever experienced.

December in Kerala always brings a delightful array of colorful temple festivals, often surprising visitors with unique experiences. One of the most memorable occurrences from our last trip was a captivating performance by a transgender group. It briefly evoked a Rio de Janeiro-esque ambiance :)

Cardamom, a versatile spice known for its warm, aromatic flavor, is a staple in my kitchen. It enhances both sweet and savory dishes and adds depth to beverages like chai tea, a delightful blend of milk tea infused with spices.
I've been learning about spices for years, and now I'm better at telling them apart.

I often opt for cozy roadside cafes over large restaurants. These family-run establishments serve up incredible food with a personal touch. There's something special about the charm and authenticity of these places that keeps me coming back for more. Plus, supporting small businesses like these cafes feels rewarding, knowing that every bite I take contributes to their success and sustains the local community.

The Trimurti in Hinduism primarily represents cosmic functions related to creation, preservation, and destruction, and in some texts, it is associated with human qualities such as sexuality, creativity and aggression. Based on my professional experience in counseling and psychotherapy, neglecting or not paying attention to aspects of sexuality, creativity, and aggression can have various consequences for an individual's mental, emotional, and relational well-being.

The three primary deities comprising the Trimurti are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, and their feminine consorts who play significant roles in their respective divine functions. These consorts are goddesses, each embodying different aspects of feminine divine energy. This is something what I really like in Hinduism – the feminine side is always there.

The Trimurti, is often associated with the sacred syllable "AUM" (also spelled "OM" or "ॐ" in Sanskrit). AUM is considered the primal sound from which all other sounds and manifestations emanate, so I truly believe that chanting or meditation on the sound AUM have spiritual and mental health benefits.

A
Brahma, as the creator within the Trimurti, is associated with the initial creation of the cosmos. The sound "A" represents the creation, and it is said to emanate from the back of the throat, signifying the beginning of all things. Saraswathi is the consort of Brahma. She is the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, arts, and learning.

U
Vishnu, as the preserver, is responsible for maintaining cosmic order and balance. The sound "U" is associated with the continuation and preservation of the universe. Lakshmi, also known as Sri or Mahalakshmi, is the consort of Vishnu. She is the goddess of wealth, prosperity, and good fortune.

M
Shiva, as the destroyer and transformer within the Trimurti, is associated with the cyclical nature of creation, preservation, and destruction. The sound "M" represents the end or dissolution of things. Parvati, also known as Uma, Shakti, or Durga, is the consort of Shiva. She is the goddess of power, love, and devotion.

Testimonial from our guest Liidia:

"Visiting Wayanad was an unforgettable journey filled with awe-inspiring natural beauty, warm hospitality, and captivating cultural experiences. The lush wilderness, coupled with the friendly locals, made every moment truly special. Exploring the area, I found a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort at the accommodation. Wayanad's well-developed infrastructure and cleanliness added to the sense of ease and security. Traveling by public buses was an adventure in itself, offering glimpses into local life. The jungle excursion was a definite highlight, immersing me in the heart of nature's wonders. And the tea plantations? Simply breathtaking – the panoramic vistas were a feast for the eyes. For anyone seeking a safe and enriching introduction to India, Wayanad is the perfect choice!"

Tea cultivation is a significant agricultural activity in Wayanad, alongside other crops like coffee, spices, and rubber.
Wayanad's tea plantations boast stunning landscapes with lush greenery, rolling hills, and panoramic views. The beauty of the tea gardens against the backdrop of the Western Ghats is simply breathtaking.
Tea plantations are not just beautiful landscapes but also repositories of cultural heritage. They often have a rich history dating back centuries, with many plantations preserving colonial-era architecture and traditions, adding to their allure.

Join me on a trip to Wayanad from November 26 till December 7, 2024 and experience its beauty firsthand!
