An Egyptian king of the 18th dynasty, ruled c.1333 BC – 1323 BC;
his tomb & its treasures exposition.
When the archaeologist Howard Carter opened the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun for the first time on the 26 November 1922, he was overwhelmed by the treasures that met his eyes. Four chambers lay before him, some of them filled to the roof with funerary objects of immeasurable value, destined to accompany the dead king on his journey into the hereafter: jewellery, cult objects, amulets, coffers, chairs, weapons, musical instruments, insignia of power. Fashioned with the art of master craftsmen from the most beautiful materials such as ebony, alabaster, precious stones & most of all gold.
Three of Tutankhamun’s tomb chambers have been reconstructed true to the originals & their dimensions, so that visitors receive an authentic impression of the space. Over 1000 replicas of the most important objects, fashioned by the best Egyptian craftsmen, can be admired there.
