Queen Nefertari

Ever wondered why did Queen Nefertari deserve similar treatment to her husband, King Ramesses II?

The keen intelligence that "Queen Nefertari" had, and that she oversaw the military base, planned, and directed Ramesses II's victorious campaigns, are reasons why the temple's external features show Nefertari standing between two enormous 10-meter-tall statues of Ramesses on either side of the entrance, with smaller representations of royal children at their feet.

On the temple facade, no queen has ever been portrayed in the same scale and next to her husband. The goddess "Hathor" is honoured by this little monument.

Slightly to the north of the Great Temple, the second rock-cut temple at Abu Simbel has a layout akin to the first, albeit smaller in scope.
