The old Egyptians thought that the universe had a system, and Goddess Ma'at was responsible for keeping everything in harmony. When someone died, they had to go through the Hall of Judgment. There, their heart was weighed against Ma'at's feather of truth. If their heart balanced with the feather, they could go to the Afterlife. If not, they couldn't.

Isis held a significant role as the mythological mother and wife of kings. In the Pyramid Texts, she was revered as one of the deities who safeguarded and aided the king in the afterlife. Her eminence in royal ideology escalated during the New Kingdom era. Temple reliefs from this period depict the king nursing at Isis's breast, where her milk not only healed her child but also symbolized his divine right to rule.

Kings also invoked her magical power to protect against human enemies. In her Ptolemaic temple at Philae, situated near the frontier with Nubian peoples who raided Egypt, she was hailed as the protectress of the entire nation, more potent in battle than "millions of soldiers," supporting Ptolemaic kings and Roman emperors in their efforts to subjugate Egypt's adversaries.

Isis's wings, depicted as outspread in Egyptian art, symbolized safety and protection. They also revealed her magical ability to resurrect the dead, her grief, and her commitment to safeguarding the deceased.
