Early Christianity and Judaism – Coptic Cairo
Our journey into Coptic Cairo begins with the Church of Abu Serga, dedicated to Saints Sergius and Bacchus, who were soldier-saints martyred during the 4th century in Syria by the Roman Emperor Maximian. This holy site, also known as the “Cavern Church”, is built over a cave where the Holy Family is said to have stayed after fleeing to Egypt to escape persecution.
Next to Abu Serga is the Hanging Church, a gatehouse of Babylon Fortress, the Roman fortress in Coptic Cairo (old Cairo). The church is the site of several reported Marian apparitions. She is said to have appeared in a dream to Pope Abraham in the 970s in the story of how the Mokattam Mountain was moved by the faith of Simon the Tanner.
We’ll end our day’s journey on the east bank of the river Nile, at the site of where the Mokkattum Mountain was said to have lifted. We will be visiting the Zabbaleen area of Cairo, where we will visit the extraordinary grounds of “Garbage City,” followed by the Coptic Monastery of St. Simon, also known as the “Cave Church”, a holy site carved out of the Mokkattum Mountains.

*CAIRO DAY TOUR*
*A trip to the pyramids in Cairo and the Egyptian museum.*

Your day will start with a pick-up from your hotel. We will first visit the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, one of the seven wonders of the world. Find out for yourself how these engineering marvels were created 3000 years ago.

After spending some time at the pyramids, we will stop by some local snack stall to enjoy some refreshments.

Next half of the day, we will be visiting the Egyptian museum where we will understand more about the different dynasties and pharaohs, marvel at the immense wealth of ancient Egyptian rulers, see the one and only female pharaoh in history and visit the treasures of King Tut, the most complete grave that was missed by the grave robbers.

DAY TOUR
MEMPHIS, DAHSHOUR and SAQQARAH

*Discover the old capital before Cairo and hear tales before the famous Giza pyramids.*

The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel. Our first stop for the day begins in Dahshour where we will see one of the earliest pyramids still standing (appx 5000 years old)!

We will then move to the first capital of Egypt where we can see the temple ruins of Ramses II, one of the greatest pharaoh of ancient Egypt.

In the second half of the tour, we will be visiting Saqqarah where the first pyramid was built. Lastly, we will visit some non-royal tombs, Mastaba. These are more recent excavation findings, as recent as 2023! Here we get a glimpse into the daily lives of ancient Egyptians, all depicted on the walls of the mastabas!
