GUADALEST is the pace you must visit on the Costa Blanca
On our coast there are many interesting places to visit: parks, castles, fountains, museums, bays and attractions.. Everyone can find what he is looking for. But there is one place that you must visit here called Guadalest Castle.
Guadalest is a castle-fortress, located on a top of mountain and surrounded by pine forests. It is overlooking the sea, the hole valley, the river and a huge storage reservoir with water of the color of the sky.
As you climb the narrowest bystreets to the top of the castle, to its lookout tower, it takes your breath away from the incredible sensations of height and beauty.
The history of this fortress began long before its conquest by Christians in the 13th century. It was built in the Muslim era, even after the conquest, has preserved many Arab heritage.
King Jaime II gave the castle to Guadalete Bernardo de Sarrià in 1243, and his family ran it for 43 years. In 1335 the castle was passed to the first Royal Duke of Gandia, and then - Cardona family, whose representatives had always had the title of Marquis de Guadalest since 1543. This family ceased to own the castle in 1699, as the last of the family Cardona, Marques de Guadalest, died without descendants. The owners of the castle changed, but not one family did not keep possession of the castle for a long time. While in the 19th century, the castle went to the family Orduna, rich and well-known family, who received the title only in 1756, but which was a supporter of the crown and acted in the interests of the King. In 1934, the last Orduna dies without heirs.
Since 1953, the construction of the reservoir begins, which ends in 1971.. And in 1974, El Castell de Guadalest was declared a historical and artistic complex, and in 1994 received the status of a Museum.
In 2015, after a large number of checks, Guadalest was recognized as one of the "most beautiful villages in Spain", and in 2016 Guadalest joined
