Besalú a is a small tranquil town that was once an important local capital during the middle ages. Its star attraction is without doubt the Romanesque bridge over the River Fluvia. The picturesque town centre is a huddle of restored medieval stone buildings with numerous cafes, shops and restaurants. Off season is a great time to get out and about, and explore some of the fascinating towns and villages of Catalonia. Besalú is an hours drive from the house and is well worth a visit.

Aiguablava
Just a 12 minute picturesque drive from the house is the small beach of Platja d'Aiguablava. With its soft, fine sand and clear blue waters, it is a beautiful spot to relax and swim or explore the Cami de Ronda costal walking trails.

Sa Tuna - a little beauty on the Costa Brava.

A scenic 10 minute drive east of the house is Sa Tuna; a tiny, former fishing village with white washed houses set around a small cove with a pebbly beach. There are also coastal paths to either side of the cove inviting you to explore the surrounding rocky coastline.

Girona (number 10 on The Telegraph’s list below) - is a bit of a hidden gem. It is only a 45 minute drive from Casa Mariposa and is well worth a visit.

A wonderful weekend walk to Fornells. There are so many pretty coves and sections of coastline to explore on the Camí de Ronda, Costa Brava. If you enjoy your walking trails you’re in for a treat!

You can see the bay of Llafranc, with the cove of Calella de Palafrugell and Cap Roig in the distance. All just a scenic 20 minute drive from the house.
