Day tour wine tour in Contraviesa mountains, Almond blossom hike and
Almuñécar.
Take the opportunity to see the mountains of Contraviesa in La Alpujarra region in the yearly blossom of its almond trees. Blossom takes its peak at the end of January and lasts to the half of February.
Our excursion continues by the visiting of the Piedras Blancas winery. This takes us to one of the highest and southernmost vineyards in Europe; where the alliance of illusion and experience is transformed into terroir wines, well structured and of great tannin.
During the visit to the winery and its facilities, we will learn from its owner the characteristics of its high-altitude wines and the typicity provided by its unique enclave in the Sierra de la Contraviesa, ending with a commented tasting of 3 of its wines.
After a break for lunch, our next stop will be in one of the most important touristic places of Granada province, Almuñécar. It has been located in the heart of the Tropical Coast since Phoenician times.
The best known attraction is The San Miguel Castle situated on the San Miguel Cerro, the large hill on which the Old Quarter is built. Inside the castle you will learn everything about its history and impact of each of the four cultures that lived here. From first Phoenician settlers, through Roman and Moorish rule until Christian reconquest and Spanish war of independence, when the castle was heavily bombarded. You can also enjoy some of the best views of Almuñécar.
Just 5 min from the castle is our last stop of the tour. The Archaeological Museum Cueva de Siete Palacios. The museum is located in what used to be the basement of the Roman Palace. Inside the museum there are eleven display cases, perfectly signposted and with information panels, in which there are archaeological remains from all the cultures that have passed through Almuñécar and La Herradura, from jewellery, amphorae, vessels and other objects found in different archaeological s
