The monument to the salt workers of Ibiza shows the typical image of the salt workers carrying on his head a "sanalló", basket of esparto used for the transport of the salt. The work was made by the Ibizan sculptor Pedro Hormigo and is undoubtedly one of the privileged spots to enjoy the sunsets

This is the second religious festival held every year in the town, taking place on 24 August. In the heart of summer, Sant Bartomeu becomes the perfect excuse to hold all kinds of events. The fireworks castle is famous, lighting up the whole bay and rounding off the big day. The festivities also include gastronomic festivals, such as S’Ou, featuring eggs as the main ingredient. Participants make their dishes and visitors enjoy them on the S’Arenal beach in a party atmosphere, with music and entertainment for children. The Carthaginians and Romans Festival is an enjoyable historical recreation of the famous rivalry between both groups and includes a landing and a friendly battle using ripe tomatoes. Concerts, sports competitions, traditional markets and other events pack the schedule for lucky visitors.

Tiburon, Tubarão, Shark! tintorera or a blue shark!

This little (2m) guy was found lost and injured at Calo des Moro.

Was rescued by COFIB (Consorci de Recuperació de la Fauna de les Illes Balears).🙏🏾

Why do we need to protect sharks? Sharks play a crucial role in healthy ocean ecosystems because they are a top predator—they keep prey species populations at a healthy level and prevent algae overgrowth that advances the decline of coral reefs.

Sharks should not be feared but protected!

Ibizan Coppery mesemb aka Malephora Crocea is a water-wise ornamental plant.

They bloom on Margins of coastal wetlands and bluffs.

This means the plant has evolved to store water for long periods of time, so requires very little watering.

This quality reduces the plant’s flammability, which makes it the ideal choice for areas prone to wildfires.

La Sabina

The only subspecies present on the Balearics is Juniperus phoenicea ssp. turbinata. This tree is a plant of the coastal zones. Only on the islands of Ibiza and Cabrera does it enter into the inland, the reason is still a riddle.

It is abundant on Ibiza though less than some time ago because of the use of the tree. On Formentera the port place in named La Savina in its honour. Apart from Ibiza and Formentera it is found on some islets like s’Espalmador, s’Espardell, Tagomago and sa Conillera.

The cones may not be eaten like those of many other juniper species because they are poisonous. For the thrushes, however, they are edible, they even have to pass through their stomachs to be able to germinate.

The coastal Phoenician junipers are worthy habitats of lichens and fungi.

A traditional use of this juniper is in case of rheuma. From trees that do not make cones (males), twigs are taken, these are dried over embers. Then they are put on the aching part of the body.

The most important use is as roof beams; to obtain a straight growth it was cut off its branches. That’s why it is the sacred tree of Ibiza.
