Our Story
Lanzarote Beach Club or LBC also known as, was a Holiday Ownership resort located at Costa Teguise, which is a coastal town in the Municipality of Teguise on the island of Lanzarote. One of the Canary Islands. With all-year round sunshine.
History:
The Lanzarote Beach Club was opened in 1985 as one of the finest timeshare resorts in Lanzarote, at the Canarian Island in Spain. At its height it was believed there were over 18,000 Timeshare owners.
It was for many years the most exchanged into resort in Europe which proved its superiority and elevated standing in the timeshare industry.
In 1989 owners saw a 389% increase in maintenance in one year alone!
Since then owners saw many alarming activities at LBC, many of which proved unconstitutional. At the same time many consumers were persuaded to buy into LBC2, a plot of land next door due to be built to even higher standards than the already 5 star LBC, but LBC2 has never been built!
In fact the rumour is that the land was never owned by LBC.
Also many owners at LBC and LBC2 were persuaded to join Interchange Vacation Club (IVC), which has been the cause of many complaints about poor quality accommodation at exorbitant prices.
In 2000 the management started a campaign to remove all the owners, firstly by escalating annual fees then, in 2003, by demanding with menace massive extra levies with little or no explanation and an outright refusal to provide copies of accounts. This resulted in many owners reneged on the payments and simply walked away in disgust.
Then, on 5th February 2004, the LBC was wound up and all owners lost the rights to use their dream Timeshare.
As a result some 18,000 people lost approx 150 Million euros. At the Time It was believed that there were 25 separate allegations including fraud, money laundering and tax evasion and that the Spanish tax authorities are supporting the claim.
It has now been renamed to: Sands Beach Resort, and can still be booked using www.sandsbeach.eu
