Ibernature Andalusia has successfully completed its first edition of "Authentic Andalusia" for the well-known UK tour operator Authentic Adventures, a member of the Specialist Holidays Group. We stayed in the picturesque and historical inland town of Osuna, with day trips to Seville and Cordoba. In addition, we stayed in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir river and on the Atlantic Ocean, visiting Doñana, one of the largest protected natural areas in Europe. Other visits included a horse show and wine distillery in Jerez de la Frontera, a walk around the mountain town of Ronda, and a last night spent in the bustling Mediterranean city of Malaga. An incredibly varied and experience packed trip, thoroughly enjoyed by the six guests. The next edition is already fully booked for March 2017.

After an unusually wet May, in Andalusia we are back to our usual weather for this time of year, with the only dampness being underfoot and under control! Ibernature Andalusia did a recce for a group of walkers aiming to visit the province of Granada and the fabulous Sierra Nevada National Park. As you can see from the photos, there was "water" of all enjoyable types, from snow, to mountain rivers, to irrigation channels, and finally to hotel swimming pools! Come and join us to dip your toe in...

A massive "thanks" to Guildford and Haslemere Ramblers for their annual visit to the south of Spain with Ibernature Andalusia. This year was a more cultural visit than on previous occasions, to the provinces of Seville, Cordoba and Huelva, and although the weather didn't accompany us particularly, the cultural and gastronomic content was hugely appreciated. The Roman ruins at Itálica, the Cartuja pottery factory, the Rio Tinto Mines, the Aracena Cave and Ham Museum, a Flamenco show, monuments in Seville and Cordoba, the Doñana National Park, a wine bodega, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, plus lovely meals in local restaurants, all of this plus much more was on the itinerary! The group are already looking forward to next year, Granada and the Alpujarras...

Although you may not be aware of the number of famous people who come from Malaga, we are sure you will recognise some of the faces, starting with Antonio Banderas or Miguel Angel Jiménez. Actors, top sportsmen, Michelin star chefs, influential politicians, writers, models, Flamenco dancers and singers, some 50 local celebrities front this great video, although the true star is the city of Malaga, an up-and-coming destination for city tourism and beyond. See how many faces ring a bell and then come to Malaga to see if you can spot any in the flesh...

Ibernature was once again host to the Godalming and Haslemere Ramblers' Club on one of their annual holidays abroad. On this occasion, we visited the provinces of Malaga and Cadiz, walking and exploring the Natural Parks of The Alcornocales and the Strait of Gibraltar. We combined walking with sightseeing, including a spectacular whalewatching trip off the coast of Tarifa, opposite the shores of Morocco plus a visit to a cheese factory (with tasting!). Our accommodation was varied, from city to village to countryside. For further details of what we can offer you, please check out our web page.

Whereas it can safely be said that Ibernature "cherry picks" some of the best experiences to live and best places to visit in Andalucia, on this occasion we didn't pick the cherries ourselves.... the village of Alfarnate, to the north of Malaga, holds a yearly festival in honour of this tasty fruit. The most famous producer of cherries in Spain is the Jerte Valley in Caceres, but the ones from Malaga are just as lovely. So much so, that all of the boxes on sale sold out within a couple of hours. The only "cherry" that lasted was a rather large one dressed up as a human!!!!

Ibernature is pleased to announce the creation of a travel experience based on food products from the province of Malaga. This tour has been designed for a prestigious UK tour operator specialising in school travel, the inspiration for which is the Food Technology subject entering into the national curriculum. Ibernature can organise similar tours for private groups or clubs, based on such local products as the Malaga goat (milk, cheese, meat), olive oil, raisins, tropical fruit and a long etcetera. To whet appetites, we are enclosing a musical video including food and drink, with some Michelin star chefs who have chosen Malaga to delight connossieurs...

May is a fabulous month in general to visit Andalusia, but if there is one place where culture, beauty and fun are guaranteed throughout the month it is Cordoba. With its "Cruces" (processions), its Fair and its "Patios", the city is buzzing with activities, attractive places and people. At this time of year, dozens of private patios are opened up to the public, and competitions are held to decide which are the best. For visitors, there is no pressure to judge, just enjoy the hard work and pride that goes into maintaining them all year round.

"Stone fountain" and "Goat mountain"? What do they have in common apart from the rhyming names? In fact, they are both in the province of Malaga and visible from one another but that's where the comparisons end: one is a salt water basin famous for its flamingos and flat surroundings, perfect for cycling, and the other is definitely a walker's route, with some steep slopes, spectacular greenery and numerous goats (both domestic and mountain) and an extended 20 member family of wild boar too fleeting for photos. A varied weekend bank holiday weekend within a short drive of Malaga, and spectacular flowers everywhere!

Mouth-watering photo, and equally "delicious" destination for a short holiday break or longer! The number of bars and restaurants in the city of Malaga has tripled in just a few years and, as The Guardian testifies, so has the creativity and quality. You can now come and do some great walking in the area and build up a healthy appetite, or burn off the calories from a previous day's excesses... the choice is yours!!!

Andalucía is known for sea, sun and even tapas but not, so far, its fine restaurants. Now it's hoping to take on the gastronomic powerhouses of Catalonia and the Basque Country. Chris Moss reports from Málaga

Malaga is not just sun and beach, the province offers a range of wonderful experiences, the latest and probably the most spectacular being the Caminito del Rey. A maintenance path built at the beginning of the 20th Century, 100 metres high into the rockface, it has just been completely renovated and open to the public. The aim is to promote the beautiful surroundings, and this has certainly been achieved: it is still necessary book weeks in advance to have the opportunity of walking through its natural gorges. Enjoy the pictures, and come and join us for this short but exhilirating walk!!!

Spring is Feria, and Feria is Seville.... Everybody and everything dresses up, from people to horses, bikes, buses and even bus stops.... this weekend was one of the events of the year, the horse and carriage parade, followed by the first day of the April festival. The whole of the city is even more attractive and full of atmosphere than usual. And what's more, the weather was perfect. Come and join us next year!

Probably one of the most elegant birds on the wing, the flamenco is a regular visitor to the south of Spain: so much so, that we are privileged to have the greatest concentration in the Mediterranean region. Fuente de Piedra (Malaga) is the most famous location for watching flamencos, and due to the most recent rains, the amazing figure of 31,448 has currently been estimated, of which almost 14,000 are breeding couples. For this reason, between now and July is the best time to visit Fuente de Piedra, although the birds can also be spotted in other areas of Malaga, Huelva and Cadiz, as their flying radius can reach 200km.

Just so that it can't be said that Malaga city dwellers are biased towards their city, here's proof of what visitors think when they come here: the new Barcelona!!! This article, published in the most read British newspaper confirms that the once poor cousin to Seville is attracting ever more tourists, thanks to its massive investment in museums, parks, seaports, bike lanes and pedestrianisation. Malaga really is the place to be, and Ibernature can organise all sorts of fun and cultural activities in and around the city. See you soon!

Thanks to a multi-million pound regeneration project, and several new galleries and museums, this once down-at-heel city has become one of Europe's hippest destinations.

There are few places in the world like the Straits of Gibraltar, where two continents are divided by just 14km. In addition to taking part in an annual nature festival in lusciously green surroundings and homely accommodation, Ibernature also went on a whale and dolphin watch, an incredible experience on a wonderfully sunny day in March. We were treated to some great views, both of Europe and Africa, as well as of these special mammals on their daily fishing routine or teaching newly born calves to swim.

Spain, and in particular Andalusia, is famous for the breeding of fighting bulls. Whether people agree with bullfighting or not, it is important and interesting to at least know understand something that has defined the history, culture and literature of the region. Our group visited a working farm near Ronda, Malaga, and spent a fascinating day learning and taking part in fun activities.

Sun and snow!!! An almost perfect day yesterday to climb the Alcazaba in Sierra Nevada, one of the highest peaks in Spain at 3.371 metres. The moon was going to bed as we started, as in addition to 20 kilometres in distance, we also had to ascend 1.900 from Trevelez, one of the highest villages in the country and famous for cured ham... and guess what we had to eat when we got back down? The Mulhacén, the highest mountain in Spain, was spectacular in the distance...

Last week the city of Malaga was honoured by the presence of BBC TV celebrity presenter, expert "birder" David Lindo. Invited to get to know the area with a view to promoting birding in an urban environment, David enjoyed his stay with us, with excellent birdwatching, weather and food. David was pleasantly surprised at the variety of birds he spotted, including peregrine falcons, the white-headed duck, the osprey and even a flamingo, just a few minutes from the city centre. Here are just a few of the photos Ibernature Andalusia took as co-host. Thanks for coming David, and please come back whenever you like!!!

What a brilliant idea the Gran Senda de Malaga is! Basically a circular walking route of over 650 kilometres that covers many of the province's villages, towns and cities. But don't worry, you can do it in stages, like we did today: stage 9, from the village of Periana to Pulgarín Alto. The weather was wonderful and the views, spectacular! By the way, look at the photo with the oranges and lemons on the same tree!!!

Wine tasting in Ronda! Even on one of Malaga's less sunny days, there's always plenty to do. A misty but different visit to Acinipo, the Roman site just outside Ronda, and then off to one of the area's multiple wine distilleries/cellars (bodegas). For wine lovers, a great trip can be organised visiting combining this up-and-coming wine producing area with excellent food, culture and views (weather permitting!).

Just a 12 minute drive from the city of Malaga is Cueva de la Victoria, a little known cave complex where, according to legend, a priceless treasure was hidden by a Moorish prince.... no luck today finding it!!! It is one of only 3 in the world originally formed under the sea. Anyway, a relatively warm place to visit especially when the temperature outside is unusually cold: in particular, the last chamber is known as the Volcano chamber, no guesses why...
