**Winter (December to February)**
Winter sees mild temperatures from 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F). It is the wettest season, but rainfall is still minimal, allowing for plenty of sunny days to explore the island’s culture and stunning landscapes.

Fuerteventura doubles the population in 25 years: record growth of 111%.
From Italian to the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands continue to grow demographically, but it is Fuerteventura that has recorded the most spectacular jump: the island, despite being the fourth most populous, doubled the population in less than 25 years, rising from 60.124 in 2000 to 127,043 in 2024

A percentage increase of 111%, which puts it at the centre of the archipelago’s demographic change.

The Canary Islands exceed 2.2 million inhabitants

From 2000 to today, the overall population of the Canary Islands has increased by over half a million people, reaching 2.2 million residents in 2024 with a positive balance of 26,814 new inhabitants in the past year alone.

Although Tenerife and Gran Canaria remain the most populous islands, the highest percentage increase is recorded in the Eastern islands, with Fuerteventura and Lanzarote the absolute stars.

Lanzarote is growing by 70%
Lanzarote, third most populated island in the archipelago, has seen a 70% increase in its population, rising from 96,130 inhabitants in 2000 to 163,467 in 2024

A growth that consolidates the role of the oriental islands as attractive poles, also thanks to their tourist and residential development.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria: more contained growth, but steady.

Tenerife remains the most populated island, adding almost 250,000 new inhabitants in the past 25 years, for a total of 955,063 residents in 2024

An increase of 25% which represents almost half of the entire demographic growth of the Canary Islands. Gran Canaria continues with more content, but significant growth: +14%, going from 741,161 inhabitants in 2000 to 863,943 in 2024

The smaller islands: El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma

The western islands, although starting from more modest numbers, are not excluded from the growth trend.

El Hierro saw a 38% increase, going from 8,533 inhabitants in 2000 to 11,806 in 2024

La Gomera gained 22% of residents, reaching 22,436 inhabitants.

La Palma, on the other hand, recorded the most moderate growth of all the Canary Islands, with an increase of just 3%, going from 82,483 inhabitants to 85,104.

An archipelago in transformation

With an ever growing population, the Canary Islands are proving to be an attractive destination not only for tourists, but also for new residents. Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, in particular, are redefining the demographic balances of the archipelago, dragging change at a pace that does not seem destined to slow down.
