10 Years with Label Boss Ben Fhurst

As the Ibiza summer shuts down and the last sun sets on the 2024 season, we share the 3rd sweet and funky after sunset sounds from our Lucky Life Music label’s 10 year anniversary at Café del Mar Ibiza last month. Today, we continue on with the live recording from our Label Boss, Ben Fhurst who has been co-orchistrating, hosting, music managing and playing at our label showcase events down at this Iconic Sunset Spot over the last decade.

With over 50 releases in the house and techno genres from over 15 very talented artists from across the globe, with label showcase events having taken place at Cafe del Mar, Space Ibiza, Pacha Ibiza, Pikes + the Ibiza 5 Star, Cirque de La Nuit and Float your Boat Parties, Gigalum in London, 54 in Andorra and many a villa party too.

Respect and gratitude to you Ben, it’s been a joy to see you grow, evolve and succeed as a dj, producer, lawyer and a great man on the island of Ibiza over the last decade.

Swim Swam Swum

And it’s done. Over the last 15 days, from 19.08 to 01.09, swimming 11 days at an average of 11km per day, I have swam my second solo pilgrimage around the island of Ibiza with no phone, no gps, and no contact from the sea.

It has been intense, immense, challenging, testing, trying, blissful, exciting, empowering, inspiring, beautiful, rewarding and so so much more. ��I look forward to one day, some day, hopefully soon, sharing the story of my experience in full 4k quality that I was able to capture it on this time, and kinda the reason I chose to do it all again.

Thank you to those who contributed, last year and this year, each in your own unique way, all of which helped make this a more enhanced, enjoyable and complete experience, from the friends that gifted birthday donations, to those who were able to accompany me through a few of the more high traffic areas, the friendly strangers who gave me hitch hike rides back to my car each night, the unexpected jetski ride to recovery and those who gave me hiking routes to get to and from my swim locations… and to all those who gave the space for me to do this in the way I needed to.

What a journey. What an adventure. What a deep dive into discovery.

Tomorrow I leave the island for another deep dive pilgrimage on a soul workshop in the far north of Scotland, and when I return, I’ll be hosting a summer celebration at Cafe del Mar on Sunday 15th Sept, and I’d love to see you there for a Summer Celebration. From sunset till close we’ll be there with my friends Ben Fhurst, Rufus White, Ken Fan and a Special Guest from SA Music Man SA - Mbuso Ngubane creating the soundtrack to the night.

Here we have it ladies and gents, the final episode of the Ibiza Swim 2023. Three days swimming, all wrapped into one episode with a story filmed and told from a rainy ibiza day.

From Cala d'hort swimming 15km past some of the most beautiful parts of the south coast of Ibiza, as well as some of the biggest super yachts and fastest speed boats, followed by a hitch hike across island, another 15km crossing the 5 Peaks into salinas, Es Cavallet, and along the party strip of Playa den Bossa, before entering Figueretas, from where, the one and only boat support was required, to get me across the entrance of the Port. And finally, 2km later, ending in Talamanca, Bar Flotante, where I had began 21 days before.

What a trip, what a journey, what an adventure. 16 Days swimming, 122km completed and the craziest thing about it all is, I'm just about to do it all again.

Day 14 - Hello Es Vedra

On this day, I had the pleasure of keeping Es Vedra in my view for 3.5 hours of the day, as I swam from Cala Codolar to Cala d`hort. An 8km route passing through some of the most beuaitufl beaches of the south west coast, including Cala Tarida, Moli and Vedella.

�After 2 hours and a few jet ski and boats cruising by at high pace, I found a natural rock spa to take a break in, to rest, nourish and hydrate, before continuing on into the beautiful, boat filled bay of Cala d’hort, with Es Vedra in view. Received a jelly fish sting while on camera, and decided, the next days swim around the island should rather skip my wishes of passing between Es Vedra and Es Vedranell, save time and distance, and keep it closer to the coast.

I finished up at 20:02, 4 hours after departing, and got in well in time to watch the beautiful sunset from the beach.

Day 13 - Passing The Cave

After a long nights sleep and an afternoon resting at home, with a few pains coming through in the body, this day was a short sunset dip from the beautiful alive and vibrant Cala Escondido wrapping round to Cala Codolar, with the beautiful Es Vedra coming into view as I passed by the magic and impressive cave of cala Comte, where many experiences have been had, hosted, captured and shared.

An easy one hour, leaving me with strength for the next swim ahead, 8km on to Cala d’hort.

Day 12 - Swimming into my 40s

Following a chilled poolside birthday lunch and beachside dinner with special friends, I was back out in the waters of San Antonio just after 15:30 on day 1 of my 40s. Things sure have changed since my earlier ibiza rave days ;-) and happy for it, more stories to come on this topic soon.

As for the swim, I considered crossing the port and then hugging the coast, but soon decided it made more sense to go as the sardine swims (I made that up) and go directly across the deep waters to Punta des Farallons near the Torre d’en Rovira, and happy for it, I crossed those 5 km in just over two hours.

The second half got a bit wild with all kinds of boats and jetskis filling up what seemed like the San Antonio autopista, with me stuck in the middle, but I made it through safely. ��From there I wrapped around and passed through the boat filled bay of Cala Comte to enter into my destination of Cala Escondida in just over 4 hours, a total of 7.3km and reaching over 80km in total, with 40km to go.

And then chilled on the beach, and joined some friends for a beautiful sunset to end off the day.

Only a few more days to go… we’re two swims away from getting back to the east coast.

Day 10 - Wow, Just WOW

What a day this was. After a days rest and reconnecting at home, Maria joined me for the hike down to Cala Aubarca before I set off on my biggest swim I’ve ever done, 13.3 km to Punta Galera in 6 Hours. The conditions we as close to perfect as can be, and with my new goggles, I was able to enjoy the beauty and bliss both in and out the water with clear vision, including a surprise visit from 3 blue fish who circled me like sharks and then swam along with me for a way.

I was very happy to be swimming this route, as this was the missing leg of the 2017 Madswimmer island attempt which I was initially inspired to complete, and finally did on this day and the next day, on my birthday swim. I also got to swim through Ses Margalides, a very special place and moment to experience, and grateful to have been able to capture and share this with you here.

With enough light, I continued on past Cala Salada and wrapped up at the perfect sunset spot, Punta Galera, followed by an early birthday celebration dinner with Maria.

This was a great day, a big shift in many ways.

Day 11, I swim again, a short one, but another meaningful one, on my birthday. Stay tuned.

Celebrating 18 years
18 years ago, creation of the dream to ‘live a Lucky Life’ began with the first of many gatherings, bringing people together from across the globe, in celebration of life, music, sunshine, friendship and the shared dream for freedom.

What did you create ?
Lucky Life events, TV, Radio, Music, Travel, boat parties, themed events, club nights, tours, Ibiza YouTube series, interviews, festival films, DJ documentaries, cooking shows, concierge service, Ibiza guide,, weddings, birthdays, house parties, stag and hens dos, charity events, dinner parties, celebrations of every shape and form, DJs, live music, radio show, record label, Live Stream sets, photoshoots, retreats and more

Who did you co-create it with?

SO MANY FRIENDS, FAMILY and LOVES. Thank you, each and every one of you.

How did you create it?

An insane amount of hours, pushing myself near to the limit, studying, learning from the greats, inspiration, always learning new skills, recreating, refining, never ever giving up, investment, borrowing more than I knew how to handle, faking it until I was making it, keeping my side hustle, never burning bridges, blagging when needed, keeping the smile alive, even when there was a tear inside, giving others the freedom to create their way while adding to the evolution of the project.

What was it like?
Exciting, invigorating, challenging, testing, uplifting, costly, worth it, full of sacrifice, full of joy, full of friendship, full of love, longer than I expected, harder than I imagined, confusing, twisting, transformational, educational, satisfying, painful, scary, ecstatic, incredible, heart warming.

Why did you do it?
To prove that it is possible to do what we love, love what we do, and make a good living doing just that…

Did it work?
Yes, and somehow, it feels like i’ve only just begun.

Would you do it all again?
100%

What would you do differently?
Less self sacrifice, more self love. Up-skill before upscale, use what I have and nothing more.
Slow down, enjoy the process, stay true to my truth, allow, learn from and honour my failures, believe in myself even more.

Over the winter in Ibiza we are blessed with time to dig deep into the vault of all that our film and photo crews have captured over the years. As we speak, Ibiza with Mike and Rufus White are working on a golden piece of content that has been tucked away for over a decade and desperate to be seen, shared and received by YOU, our Lucky Life TV viewers...
