I’ve been nominated for the International Business of the Year award by The Trusted Business Community Association !

Having won this award in both 2022 and 2023, I feel incredibly grateful to be in the running again for 2024. Let’s see if we can make it a hat-trick and win for a third consecutive year! 🎩

But in all seriousness, I’m truly honoured to be nominated again. LanzAbility is my proudest “business baby” because I know it has the potential to make a huge positive difference in so many lives. While I can’t change the whole world, I’m committed to making an impact with the resources I have.

A massive thank you to all our wonderful holiday guests with disabilities who have trusted us to provide their adapted holiday of a lifetime here on beautiful Lanzarote. 🏝️

And a heartfelt thank you to my incredible team and every single person who has supported our mission so far—whether by liking, commenting, sharing, spreading the word, or nominating us. Your support means everything.

👉🏼 If you’d like to help us continue making holidays in Lanzarote accessible for everyone, please send a quick WhatsApp message to The Trusted Business Community Association at +44 7507258671 with your vote for LanzAbility or Crazy DAVID.

It’ll only take a moment of your time, but it would mean the world to us.

Thank you so much for your support! 🙏🏼

Nearly a decade in Lanzarote, but his first time on the water

The other day, I received an unexpected call from my go-to adapted water sports partner:
"David, I need you to come down to Famara Beach and oversee a surf kayak tour."

Absolutely clueless about what to expect, I reshuffled my day, hopped in the car, and headed to the beach. That’s where I met Jonas Van de Steene—a determined, well-trained young man who represents Lanzarote in international hand bike tournaments.

Jonas, who has no use of his legs, has an incredible upper body strength that made him a natural for surf kayaking. If you’re unfamiliar (like I was), surf kayak combines the thrill of surfing with the agility of kayaking—riding waves in a specially designed kayak.

Together, we transferred Jonas from his wheelchair into the surf kayak, strapped him in securely, and off he went.

Jonas very much enjoyed the experience but what really made the day unforgettable for all of us was hearing him say, “I’ve lived in Lanzarote for nearly ten years, and this is my first time out on the ocean at Famara Beach!”

🛶 🏄🏻‍♂️ Would you dare to go surf kayaking in the ocean?

P.S. A video of the whole experience is coming soon!

Life can be a real beach sometimes

While I’m not particularly fond of venturing into the water, I do love taking regular walks along the beach. Ever since I first moved to Lanzarote, the ocean, the long stretches of sand, and the gentle breeze have been my place to pause, recharge, and simply enjoy life on this beautiful island.

That’s why I always say: The beach isn’t just a location—it’s an experience that comes with plenty of health benefits.

🧘🏻‍♂️ Stress relief: The calming rhythm of the waves works wonders for your mental health.
☀️ Vitamin D boost: Sunshine instantly elevates your mood and improves overall well-being.
🦶🏼 Connection to nature: Being outdoors brings a sense of calm and perspective.

While not all of Lanzarote’s beaches are wheelchair accessible, there are a few fantastic spots where everyone can enjoy a day by the sea:

From Playa Blanca, with its ramps and accessible amenities, to the golden sands of Playa de las Cucharas in Costa Teguise, or the urban charm of Playa del Reducto in Arrecife—accessible facilities such as wooden walkways, toilets, and showers ensure that these stunning beaches can be enjoyed by all.

Which one appeals to you the most? 🏝️

There’s no such thing as a self-made man

As the founder of LanzAbility , I often get asked how I made or make it all happen. And my answer is always the same: I didn’t and don’t do it alone.

Behind every step of progress, there has been a team of dedicated, talented people who believe in my mission as much as I do.

👤 Ayo, our web and tech guy – still not sure how he does it
👤 Sina, one of the most empathetic chaperones I’ve ever seen
👤 Laura, the most brilliant trilingual marketing and PR mind
🫂 Bilingual certified and experienced carers, guides, and chaperones providing exceptional support to our guests
🫂 Expert collaboration partners for all sorts of adapted experiences on the island
🫂 Friends and friends of friends who support us by liking, commenting, sharing, and recommending us without any form of financial compensation

And of course, a huge thank you to our wonderful holiday guests, who share their incredible experiences with us and with the world – you’re an integral part of LanzAbility’s success and growth.

Thank you so much for your support, and let’s keep up the good work in 2025, shall we?

A holiday isn’t just about ticking destinations off your travel bucket list

Over the years running Adventure Holidays Lanzarote and more recently LanzAbility , I’ve encountered all sorts of holidaymakers.

There are those who arrive completely burnt out, needing their holiday as a lifeline to recover before diving back into the daily grind.
Then, there are the bucket-listers—determined to see every single tourist attraction, racing through their stay without pausing to unwind.
And of course, there are the ones who expect Lanzarote to be exactly like home but with better weather and a beach.

But here’s the truth: a holiday in Lanzarote is about so much more.

Yes, you’ll find volcanoes and camels, scuba diving and paragliding. But, as cliché as it might sound, the magic lies in the little moments:

✨ Watching the sunrise with a cuppa in hand.
✨ Laughing like a kid while splashing in the sea.
✨ Feeling the sand between your toes and the breeze on your face.

It’s about reconnecting—with yourself, your loved ones, and what truly matters.

And this is something we can all learn from people with disabilities, who often approach life with a remarkable sense of calm, fully immersing themselves in the present moment.

Where was your last unforgettable holiday? And what made it so special?

“Aren’t you going home for Christmas, David?” — “Of course, I go home every night.”

Lanzarote has been my home for over 15 years now, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. From the moment I landed at Arrecife Airport, this island has welcomed me with open arms. It’s given me the opportunity to grow, to be happy, and to enjoy a life I could never have imagined.

It’s here that I’ve met the right people and built Adventure Holidays Lanzarote from the ground up. My second business baby, LanzAbility , is my way of saying thank you and giving something back to this incredible island.

Lanzarote is a place of joy, relaxation, adventure, and discovery for those willing to embrace its charm. Through LanzAbility, my fantastic team and I are working to make it an accessible destination for EVERYONE. ♿️

Now, just to be clear, I’ve no plans to leave any time soon. But one day, when my time here comes to an end, I want to leave Lanzarote more accessible than it is today. I want everyone to be able to visit, explore the island, and recharge their vitamin D and their spirits.

Merry Christmas to you all! 🎄✨

Christmas is what you make it

It’s 21 December, and many of you in the UK or Germany are probably in full festive mode—wrapping gifts, sipping mulled wine, and getting cosy by the fire. But what if I told you it’s been over 18 years since I last celebrated Christmas like that?

And who says there’s only one way to enjoy this time of year?

In Lanzarote, Christmas feels more like a summer holiday with a sprinkle of magic. Daytime temperatures in December are a lovely 20–24°C, and even the Atlantic Ocean stays at around 20°C.

This means you can explore the island’s stunning volcanic landscapes, try paragliding or adapted surfing, and later wander through charming villages or along beach promenades lit with festive lights and decorated for the season.

Whether you prefer sipping hot chocolate at a traditional Christmas market or enjoying a meal al fresco beneath palm trees, Christmas isn’t about a specific place or climate—it’s a feeling.

Wherever you are and whoever you’re with, the LanzAbility team and I wish you a wonderful Christmas. 🎄🏝️

P.S. Did you know Christmas here lasts until 6th January, thanks to the Three Kings? 👑🐫

Why I don’t usually work with big travel organisations

At LanzAbility, we’re proud to do things a little bit differently. While we’ve had opportunities to partner with large travel organisations, we’ve often chosen not to. Here’s why:

🫂 Big enough to handle, small enough to care
We have the resources and expertise to accommodate bigger groups, but what sets us apart is our personal touch. Each guest isn’t just another number—they’re an individual with unique needs, dreams, and preferences.

👤 Personalised service, every time
Large organisations often focus on volume over detail. At LanzAbility, we take the time to truly understand our clients. Whether it’s a customised itinerary or ensuring every activity is fully accessible, our commitment to quality, safety and care comes first.

👥 A partner, not a provider
We’re not just about delivering services—we’re about building relationships. With LanzAbility, you’re not dealing with a faceless organisation but with a team that’s passionate about making holidays in Lanzarote accessible for everyone. This goes for every single one of my team members and partners.

🫶 Making memories, not margins
Yeah, I know it might sound cheesy, but it’s true. We want every guest to leave with unforgettable memories, feeling seen, valued, and empowered. That’s a promise we can only uphold by having small enough groups to build genuine connections.

Of course, we’re interested in growth—our vision is to make Lanzarote accessible to everyone. And yes, that means LanzAbility must be profitable and self-sustaining. But we believe we’ll achieve that without making money our primary focus.

What’s your experience been like with small vs big travel operators?

When’s the cheapest time to fly to Lanzarote? 🛫

Let’s face it: budget is often the biggest hurdle between you and your holiday. It's the question I get asked most often and the top reason people hold back from flying, apart from accessibility challenges. And no wonder—some one-way tickets can cost as much as £350!

So, here’s the best time to visit Lanzarote from anywhere in Europe:

💸 Low season = Low fares

January (post-New Year): After the festive rush, prices tend to drop significantly, sometimes as low as £25!
Late April to early June: Before the summer holiday crowds arrive, you’ll find plenty of deals. Usually around £100
Mid-September to November: After the summer rush, flights often drop in price while the weather remains warm and inviting. Anything between £28 and £80.

Avoid flying during: Christmas and New Year, Easter, and July/August (peak summer holiday season). These are the priciest periods to travel.

Bonus: Travelling in the off-season means fewer crowds, lower accommodation costs, and a more relaxed atmosphere on the island.

👉🏼 My suggestion:

Reach out to Paula Hansen from World Accessible Holidays . She’s brilliant at finding flights that won’t have you leaving at 5 am or paying over the odds.

Where do you usually look for and book (accessible) flights?

Planning an accessible holiday doesn't have to be a challenge

If planning a sunny getaway is already a bit of a challenge for those without disabilities, imagine navigating the logistics of transporting a power wheelchair, managing without your carer, or trawling through countless websites to find accessible activities.

With LanzAbility, we’ve got it all covered:

Flights, Transport & Mobility
We partner with World Accessible Holidays to ensure you get an accessible flight at a reasonable time. All vehicles LanzAbility uses are designed for comfort and fully wheelchair or power wheelchair accessible. Plus, we work with local mobility equipment providers, so you can hire rollators, mobility scooters, and more to move around independently.

Accommodation
I personally test all LanzAbility accommodations, hiring a carer to wheel me around and check features like roll-in showers. Our hand-picked accommodations are in convenient locations with accessible bars, restaurants, shops, pharmacies, and more, all within minutes of walking. Nearby beaches are also equipped with facilities for people with disabilities.

Activities
We collaborate with a range of tour and activity providers and offer experienced chaperones, guides and certified bilingual carers to assist you with your daily tasks, island tours, boat trips, beach picnics, paragliding, and more.

👉🏼 All that’s left for you to do is get in touch with me via DM or through the contact form on the LanzAbility website.

Size doesn’t matter—unless we’re talking sweet potatoes 🍠

Fun fact about Lanzarote: This sunny island is home to some of the biggest and tastiest sweet potatoes in the world! Thanks to the unique volcanic soil and climate, these spuds boast an intense flavour you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, they’re packed with nutrients, making them a deliciously healthy staple in Lanzarote’s cuisine.

There are two main types grown here: the white batata and the vibrant orange variety. Both have distinct flavours, so be sure to try both on your next visit. Many of the island's accessible restaurants serve them roasted, mashed, or even as sweet potato chips—perfect for everyone to enjoy.

My recommendation:
Take an accessible guided tour of the Salinas de Janubio, Lanzarote’s historic salt flats, where you’ll get an insider look at traditional salt production in a small, intimate group. Afterwards, head to a nearby spot to savour a salted craft beer with crispy salted sweet potato chips—both seasoned with salt from the flats!

Could it get more authentically Lanzarote than that? I don’t think so! 😊

How do you enjoy your sweet potatoes best?

Why we don’t have a Black Friday deal

Everywhere you turn these days, it feels like discounts are raining down. But we’ve decided not to jump on the Black Friday bandwagon.

Why? Because we already offer the best deal all year round.

Here’s what sets us apart:

🫂 A dedicated, certified team of guides and carers who genuinely care about your well-being and making your stay in Lanzarote unforgettable.
🏨 Partnerships with accessible accommodation providers, ensuring you’ll find a place that truly feels like a home away from home.
🪂 A wide range of adapted activities, from paragliding and surfing to boat trips, island tours, wine tasting, saltworks, beehive visits, horse riding, camel feeding, and much more.

Our adapted holidays bring together so many dedicated people and resources. And our prices are carefully set with the often challenging financial circumstances of people with disabilities in mind. Offering a 20–30% discount for Black Friday wouldn’t be fair—to them or to the incredible team that makes it all happen.

For us, it’s not about fleeting discounts. It’s about offering meaningful experiences and value every single day of the year.

👉🏼 What I CAN offer you is a personal call with me to help plan your next adapted trip to Lanzarote, tailored to you and your loved ones. 🏖♿️

Laura, my Copywriter and PR Manager, asked me to share this with you 👇🏼

Hi everyone, it’s Laura Timm here, taking over David’s profile for a moment. You know how some people tend to downplay their own achievements while highlighting the kindness and successes of others? Well, Crazy David is the perfect example of this.

A few weeks ago, I flew over from Tenerife to join him and the team for a workation day in Lanzarote. While we were sitting on a terrace along the beachfront promenade, I noticed two little girls perched on the wall, selling their handmade artwork to passers-by. “Oh, how sweet! It’s amazing to see such an entrepreneurial spirit at their age. Look, David!” I said.

But before I knew it, David had already walked over to them. “How much is it?” he asked in Spanish. The girls exchanged a quick glance, and one shyly replied, “4€?”

David pretended to worry and said, “Oh no, I only have 5€. Would that be okay instead?”

The joy on their faces as he handed over the 5€ note was priceless. And the grin on my face was just as big when he came back and gave me this beautiful picture of Lanzarote. 🌋😍

Why am I sharing this story?

Because if you’re planning a holiday and entrusting your time and wellbeing—or that of your loved ones—to someone, it should be someone who genuinely knows what they’re doing and truly cares.

I vouch for David from the bottom of my heart (or, as he likes to say, from the heart of my bottom).

Go and enjoy an adapted holiday of a lifetime in Lanzarote. 🏝

P.S. Thanks, David, for letting me share this here!

A wheelchair-accessible, ocean-view alternative to the Camino de Santiago 🧑🏼‍🦽

Just recently, one of my team members travelled all the way from the Canaries to Portugal to do the Camino de Santiago. Hearing her rave about the stunning coastal scenery and the experience of walking long distances through ever-changing landscapes made me realise just how unique, even magical, that kind of journey can be.

So, why not find an accessible alternative here in Lanzarote?

As it turns out, I didn’t have to look far. Starting just minutes from your accommodation in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote boasts one of the world’s longest pedestrian walks at 26 km!

The path has a dedicated red lane for cyclists, while the other two lanes are perfect for pedestrians, manual and power wheelchairs, and mobility scooters. Around 90% of the route runs along the coast, lined with shops, bars, and restaurants where you can take a break. LanzAbility has partnered with selected accessible spots, which not only offer excellent service but also have wheelchair-friendly facilities and allow power wheelchairs to be recharged.

So, if you’re in the mood for a bit of a wander, why not create your own ‘Camino de Lanzarote’?

26 km in total—perhaps a few kilometres each day, with plenty of time to relax and enjoy some good food along the way. Go solo or with a companion. Fresh sea air, endless ocean views… and who knows, you might just meet some interesting folks along the route!

Oh, and don’t forget your sun protection—we’ve got enough sunburned crabs around here as it is! 🦀

When was the last time you enjoyed a picnic or barbecue? 🍗

Thanks to the mild, subtropical climate here in the Canaries, having a picnic or “chuletada” (barbecue) out in nature is a regular treat—and it’s such an underrated experience. Picture gathering your favourite people—whether it’s your partner, family, or friends—and spending the day eating, drinking, and chatting in a beautiful setting.

While Lanzarote has plenty of designated picnic spots, accessibility can be an issue. Many locations are quite remote or challenging to navigate in a wheelchair.

But here’s one spot that’s an absolute favourite of mine on the island, featuring:

Ample space to move around
Barbecue grills for meat and veg
Kid-friendly facilities
Stunning natural surroundings
Full wheelchair accessibility

Of course, traditional tour buses don’t usually cater to places like this—but LanzAbility , we do. My team and I will ensure you’re comfortably transported there and back, complete with a smooth boarding and disembarking experience using our hydraulic wheelchair lift.

You can then choose whether we stay to share the feast with you, or leave you to enjoy a lovely day with your loved ones. 😁

👉🏼 What’s one thing you’d definitely bring to a picnic?

An accessible experience with a bit of a salty aftertaste

My team and I are so excited to finally share our newest accessible experience for holiday guests in Lanzarote!

The Salinas of Lanzarote are truly eye-opening for most visitors. On a guided tour with the friendly team at Las Salinas and our own experienced guides, you’ll get a look behind the scenes at these unique salt pans and learn all about the history of salt production on the island and how it fits into local life.

Instead of needing to tackle the roughly 45-minute circular walk over uneven ground, we’ve managed to get exclusive access for our WAVs (wheelchair-accessible vehicles), so we can take you straight to the best spots.

You also won’t be in one of those massive groups you see with the big tour operators. Instead, you’ll get to share the experience with others who are just as excited to discover this unique place.

And if you’re up for it, you can even try a salt beer along with some salted sweet potato crisps, made right here with salt from the Salinas. You can find these crisps in Lidl shops all over Lanzarote—they’re my absolute favourite!

All in all, it’s a unique sensory experience where you can touch, taste, and smell all things salty – making it especially interesting for visitors who are visually impaired or blind.

🧂 Any guesses as to how much salt is produced here daily?

Just hanging out while taking another holiday booking

Alright, I’ll admit—this isn’t my usual working position. But it could be, if only my brain could handle the blood rushing to my head!

It’s November, and I’m still out here in a T-shirt and shorts, mucking about on a climbing frame, handling bookings, and organising tours and activities out in nature.

Yesterday, it was 26 degrees, the ocean is warm, it rarely rains, and we’ve got reliable fibre internet. Oh, and did I mention we enjoy 2-3 more hours of daylight than many other European countries? All thanks to our close proximity to the African continent.

So, if you know anyone who works remotely and could use a change of scenery for a few days, weeks, or even months, let them know Lanzarote is the perfect spot for them.

Not only will they likely feel better mentally, but they’ll also be way more productive, especially when inspired by the stunning surroundings and the surf sessions at Famara beach.

P.S. As for me, while I love the occasional hang-out, my day-to-day is a full blend of fun and hard work to make my vision a reality: making this island accessible to everyone.
