How do music sound like in Spain?
🎹
Can you hear this sound? It's a piano in the beautiful building of the Fundación Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona city center. A place for art, culture and - of course - to discover one of the most symbolic and powerful artists of the Spanish scene in the 20th century.

Efectivamente is used to say "you are right" or "yes, definitely!", "for sure!". It basically means you are saying something which make sense and we all love being right, isn't it?

Let's learn some Spanish slang.
💍
"¿el anillo pa' cuando?" it's literally "when the ring?" which is a shortened version of "when you are going to have/give her/give him the ring". Of course it means THE ring, the wedding one, so when you hear this someone is asking "when are you getting married?".
Isn't the end of August the best moment to plan a marriage? Isn't Spain the best place to celebrate it?

lesson number 11:
Let's learn some Spanish slang
What would you do on a summer Friday?
In Spain we would move mountains to make a party or to join one.
So: ¿Viernes? FIESTECITA
(= little party as a "big" and "normal" one would be just FIESTA... but "fiestecita" just means "nice" party, "cool" party, a very lovely one.)
"Nos vamos de fiesta" or also "Montamos una fiestecita", whatever, just remember to enjoy!

lesson number 9:
Let's learn some Spanish slang
SUNDAY: are we going to have a Gin&Tonic? In Spain you don't need the full sentence "¿Vamos a tomar una ginebra?", it's enough just saying "Gin&Tonic?" or even better just "Gin?" (=ginebra) which sounds like a question but it's actually a way to say: WE ARE GOING TO DRINK IT, NO NEED TO ARGUE.

Let's learn some Spanish slang, and let's do it with GLAMOUR with the help of a VIP.
ONCE UPON A TIME a girl from the province of Barcelona. She was beautiful and talented and she wrote a few songs mixing flamenco tradition with the new sounds of trap music and "tra tra". 😉
"Tra tra" appeared in her first popular song "Malamente" (2018) and suddenly became a MUST in Spain (and worldwide a bit later) to say "ok, cool" or "amazing" or "done" or "we agree" or "stop it" or to say just "tra tra" with means everything and its opposite, it's a new idea which can just be translated with "tra tra". You get it?
TRA TRA.

Let's learn some Spanish slang
WEDNESDAY. What's the plan for today's lunch? "Unos chipirones" (= squids) one of the most typical tapas everywhere in Spain, better if with a "cerveza", better if in a kiosk facing the "playita". So, "some squids" let's do it!

Whatever you're going to do this Sunday the rule is to enjoy the day, the friends, the landscape, the beach or the city walk. So in Spain we say "¡a disfrutar!"

"Finally, a few days ago, I had the opportunity to guide a tour again after one year and a half!

It was with a young couple of north american students, making a break from their semester in London.

Sagrada Familia surroundings were so calm and quiet it was hard to believe is the most visited monument in Barcelona!! For us it was a great opportunity to enjoy the outside and the inside of the church. We spend almost two hours there, but the time fled!
We took the metro to arrive to La Pedrera in Passeig de Gracia, where we explored this apartment building by Gaudí that was so misunderstood when in early 1900 was being built.

To finish our tour we took a walk in Passeig de Gracia to arrive to The Apple of the Discord (Casa Batllò, Casa Ametller and Casa Lleó-Morera) that I like to call the golden apple of the Modernismo in Barcelona.
Such a great time to come to Barcelona right now, I know is hard to travel, but when is possible it feels like a great success!

The next day we visited Park Güell and the neighborhood of Gracia! I could not believe it: there is space in park Güell bench to seat and stay for a while, there are no big groups and you could take a selfie with the dragon and nobody will stand in front of your picture! amazing!!"

Let's learn some Spanish slang, and let's do it with GLAMOUR with the help of a VIP.
Today's VIP is Augstín Lara, who was a mexican poet and music composer who, in 1932, wrote the popular song "Granada": "My singing turns gypsy when it's for you".
Augustin wrote this beautiful bolero dedicated to the Spanish city thanks to the stories he heard by the Spanish immigrants in Mexico. Only decades later he visited Spain and Granada (Andalucía), when his song was already a symbol (and an hymn) of the city.

lesson number 4:
Let's learn some Spanish slang!
"Cervecita" is a small beer which as you might understand is actually just a way to say and make it nicer... but when you say so you basically want to say "let's have a beer!" (= ¡vamos a tomar una cerveza!).
Do you have a better plan for this Thursday?

lesson number 3:
Let's learn some Spanish, some slang to make our holidays as "wanna be locals" more worth and funny.
Do you remember someone said that Tuesday is the saddest day of the week? Well, here we have a solution: starting from 6 pm call a friend, a lover or whoever you wanna meet tonight and say: ¿quieres una tapita? (do you want a little tapa?).
This basically means "let's go out for a drink" and maybe will have some Spanish "tortilla", some "patatas bravas", some "olivas".. well, a little portion of some kind of food, most of the time to share with the people you are with. This little portion would be officially a "tapa" ("tapas" is plural). But what if you call it sweeter? So "tapita" (a small one, a tiny one). And in the meantime you can have a few beers, some glasses of wine or a gin & tonic. Isn't it the best way to forget Tuesday's sadness?
😅

lesson number 2 (a lesson with glamour):
Summer is the best moment to improve or study languages. But this is not an official language school... so, let's learn some Spanish slang, and let's do it with GLAMOUR with the help of a VIP.
Today's VIP is Rigoberta Bandini, the new star of indie Spanish Music, with the elegance of Landa Del Rey, the energy of Pink, the style of Florence and the machine, the charme of Jodi Foster (as she is also an actress).
Tonight Rigoberta is performing live in Barcelona and the entire city will be singing "In Spain we say it's amargura" from the song "In Spain we call it soledad".
Amargura is literally bitterness but it's very often used to define something - or better said someone - which is very frustrated by its own sadness and bitterness, someone's behaviour which is very unpleasant and negative, maybe aggressive. Be careful: "¡que amargada/o estás!", depending on the situation, can be a very unfair commentary!
By the way, "in Spain we say it's amargura".
¡Gracias! for your dictionary, Rigoberta!

How do mosaics look like in Spain?
👩‍🔧☀️👨‍🎨
Welcome to Barcelona's Park Güell by Antoni Gaudí who designed a garden city for Mister Güell and built it between the 1900 and 1914. At that time this was an area outside of the "ancient" Barcelona but with a wonderful green environment and an amazing view of the city (and the sea) from the very top of it. Contemporary Barcelona is much bigger now a day and you can still enjoy a great overview of the Catalan capiimmersedrsed in the wonderful mix of nature and human constructions that Gaudí combined perfectly. In the picture you can see a detail of the roof of the market area which the architect imagined being the vibrating and lively area of this "ciudad jardín". This mosaic was actually something absolutely new at that time as Gaudì made all his works with recycled pieces of ceramic and glass. A technique named "trencadís" (in catalan is referred to something that has been chopped up).

lesson number 1:
Summer is the best moment to improve or study languages. But this is not an official language school... so, let's learn some Spanish, some slang to make our holidays as "wanna be locals" more worth and funny.
What's the summer MUST in most of Spain? Well, we have many but let's start with the beach. So, you should say "playa". But it sounds even better if you say "playita". Literally it would be like a "small beach" but it's actually used on a day by day basis to say just "playa". "Vamos a la playa?" sounds very formal. "Vamos a la playita!" is much better and much more "by locals". So "¡playita!

How do commitments look like in Spain?
🥂🌭🍾🍽
Somewhere in San Sebastián...
In the Basque Country a good glass of chacolí with some typical tapas it's a must every day of the week, in every season, for everybody (older than 18 y.o., of course).
In a summer sunday afternoon it's almost a commitment.
😅
In basque it is txakolin. This is the specific name of this super good white wine with its peculiar acidic taste which is produced mostly in the Basque Country from a type of grape called courbu.
