THE TIMES NAMES FINCA BOTANICO AS ONE OF THE BEST VILLAS IN THE CANARIES
The Times newspaper recently named The Secret Garden Villa@Finca Botanico as one of the best villas in the Canary Islands. Specifically selecting it as "best for a rural retreat".

WHAT'S HOT IN THE GARDEN?

Our firecracker plants are currently exploding into flower in both the Garden Apartment and Secret Garden Villa.

Russelia equiseteformus is one of our favourite flowering shrubs as it blooms so profusely and regularly - and as a result we have planted it extensively in both gardens.

Also known colloquially as the coral plant and the fountainbush this native of Mexico and Guatemala pushes out long arching branches of up to 1.5 metres in length that are covered in flower.

LANZAROTE PRESIDENT DECLARES BRITISH STILL WELCOME!
Lanzarote President Maria Dolores Corujo has gone on the record this morning to clarify once and for all that British tourists are still very much welcome here on Lanzarote.

'It's categorically false that in Lanzarote we do not want British tourism or that we want to reduce the numbers of British tourists.
I will say it once and for all. British tourism has always, is and will always be welcome on the island of Lanzarote.'

Corujo was forced into the clarification after certain sections of the UK media deliberately misconstrued remarks made about reducing the island's current over dependency on visitors from the UK, who account for around 50% of all arrivals.

A relatively recent but highly welcome addition to the foodie scene in Guatiza, Maya's Bakery is located just a few minutes stroll away from Finca Botanico in Calle Achicoria, off Calle Alabaca.

Maya creates a tasty range of artisinal breads and hand made cookies and cakes and is open Monday to Thursday from 09.30 to 13.30 and Saturdays from 12.00 to 18.00.

LANZAROTE STILL LOVES BRITISH TOURISTS
Don't believe the clickbait claptrap emanating from certain sections of the British media. Lanzarote isn't banning British tourists and they will always be made welcome here.

Island tourist authorities are simply seeking to wean the island off its current overdependence on the UK market - which currently accounts for around 50% of all arrivals.

LAST ORDERS AT EL CHIRINGUITO
Our local beach at Arrieta is set to lose the emblematic bar El Chiringuito, after the local council decided to call time on the operation.

El Chiringuito has been serving the local community and tourists since 1998 and we'll be sorry to see it go. As it boasts plenty of charm and character.

However local politicians have decreed that it only ever opened with a two year lease, which has never been renewed. And as a result they plan to tear it down and freplace it with a new facility as part of an EU funded redevelopment of the broader beachfront area at Arrieta. Let's hope it proves more succesful than their short lived renovation of the bridge walkway at Arrieta which was closed to the public just months after re-opening due to storm damage and is still awaiting full repair!

We spent a delightful 10 days at the lovely Finca Botanico. The accommodation is spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean and a pleasing décor. It was all we could have wished for. The garden is a welcoming, relaxing space with its beautiful array of planting. Gaby was readily contactable to answer questions which was very helpful.
