Mojácar, Lucainena and Níjar will appear on the Michelin Guide maps

The three Almeria towns in the Network of the Most Beautiful Towns in Spain - Mojácar, Lucainena de las Torres and Nijar Villa, will appear on the maps that the Michelin Guide plans to make with the 111 towns that currently belong to this Association after a decade of activity. Its publication will contribute to increasing, in this way, the visibility and promotion of these municipalities, all of which have less than 15,000 inhabitants.

The associated towns will appear alongside the best restaurants and gourmet proposals on the official maps of the prestigious Michelin Guide. This initiative is already part of the promotion and dissemination plan of this Network in other countries such as France. The creation and operation of a new computer application is another of the measures that the National Network plans to implement within this same spirit promotion of its associates, as a passport, so that visitors can receive discounts in the future.

The latest governing bodies of this Network, at the regional and national level, have taken account of these initiatives, and the National Assembly held in Peníscola, in the province of Castellón, agreed to choose Grazalema as the headquarters of the XI National Congress of this entity. The people of Cadiz will thus receive the delegations from the associated localities and expect a capacity of more than 300 members next December. The congressmen will visit the Pinsapar Setenil de las Bodegas and Zahara de la Sierra that are part of this network of the Most Beautiful Towns along with Grazalema and Vejer and Castellar as representatives of the province of Cádiz.

The Executive of this Network has announced its intention to recognize the 14 founding towns of this Association on the occasion of the tenth anniversary. The list is made up of Albarracín, Puertomingalvo; Rubielos de Mora, Calacieite and Valderrobres, in the province of Teruel); Ayllón (Segovia); Maderuelo (Segovia); Medinaceli (Soria), Morella and Peñíscola (Castellón); Pampaneira (Granada); Valverde de los Arroyos (Guadalajara) and where two of the three municipalities of Almería are included, Mojácar and Lucainena de las Torres. Níjar Villa, administrative capital and historic center of the municipality, was incorporated on January 1, 2019 after its nomination was approved in the National Assembly of Alberca, in Salamanca, in December 2018.

The Most Beautiful Towns Directive took into account and valued the beauty of the Nijaran urban complex, “of great attractiveness, for its preserved structure of Arab origin, labyrinthine and narrow, for the whiteness of its houses, for its Mudejar church, for its craftsmanship and the kindness of its people.”

The towns aspiring to be part of this National Association must pass a demanding audit. The operation begins with the request of the municipal plenary session or government board. Afterwards, the verdict is issued, positive or negative, on the condition of improving important aspects in the town. There is expulsion, for failing to comply with the requirements, as was the case in Trujillo.
