According to local folklore, from the start of last century the local Hararis people in Ethiopia started feeding the local wild hyenas each evening in a bid to stop them killing their livestock, over time the hyenas got a little a lazy and rather than hunting for their dinner, they would come searching for their red meat from the hyena man.

Some of the hyena men give each hyena a name they respond to, and call to them using a "hyena dialect", a mixture of English and Oromo. The hyena men feed the hyenas by mouth, using pieces of raw meat provided by spectators

6th. The Book of Liturgy/ a book written on parchment during the 17th century AD/

7th. The book of chronicles/ a book written on parchment and narrates the story of kings and queens of Ethiopia since the 10th century BC/

8th. The history book of Emperor Menilk II King of Kings Ethiopia/ a book written in the 20th AD/

9th. The book of the passion week/ a book written on parchment with horse skin in the 15th AD/

10th. The letter of Emperor Menilik II to the Russian king Nicholas/ This is a letter written in Amharic to address Italy's aggression on Ethiopia/

11th. The letter of King Sahleselasie of Shewa to the Queen of England./ A letter written in the 19th century AD in Amharic to the Queen regarding the status of British who were living in Ethiopia/

12th. The letter of Emperor Tewodros to Queen Victoria of England / The letter is written in Amharic which expresses the Emperor's aspirations for modernization/

Tej (Ethiopian Honey Wine)

Tej is a honey wine, like mead, that is brewed and consumed in Ethiopia. It has an alcohol content generally ranging from 7 to 11%. It is often home processed and consists of three main ingredients; honey, water and a medicinal shrub called "gesho"

It is generally consumed during social events such as festivals or weddings, and religious events like Ethiopian New Year (Enkutatash). Consequently, Tej forms an important part of Ethiopian society and culture and is considered the national drink of Ethiopia.

Quick Facts About Ethiopian Coffee

Coffee ceremony of Ethiopia is a core cultural custom in Ethiopia. There is a routine of serving coffee daily, mainly for the purpose of getting together with relatives, neighbors, or other visitors.

[ ] Loose grass is spread on the floor where the coffee ceremony is held, often decorated with small yellow flowers. Composite flowers are sometimes used, especially around the celebration of Meskel (an Orthodox Holiday celebrated by Ethiopians).

[ ] Ethiopian coffee beans are known for their complexity, pungent aroma, winey quality, and distinct acidity.

[ ] Produces the heirloom varieties of Arabica coffee

[ ] The key coffee-producers are from the Sidamo, Limu, Yirgacheffe, and Harrar regions.

[ ] Ethiopian coffees are cultivated in mountainside fincas (farms) with an elevation between 1500 and 2200 meters (5000-7200 feet) above sea level.

[ ] Coffee was first discovered in the region of Kaffa in 850 AD by an Ethiopian goat herder named Kalid.

Only kenyan and Djibouti passport holders are allowed to enter Ethiopia without visa.

However, nationals from US, Canada, most Western European countries, Australia and Newzealand can acquire tourist visas on arrival at Bole International airport in Addis Ababa.

If coming in to Ethiopia by road, visas must be acquired from an Ethiopian Embassy abroad as no visas are issued at border entry points.
