The reindeer gathering begins by driving through the forests and mapping out the locations of the reindeer. 🔥
Next, herders start calling the reindeer to feeding spots, where they are given hay.
This process trains the reindeer to associate the ”calling sound” with food.
This is repeated for several days, gradually attracting more reindeer to the feeding spots each day.
Reindeer can hear the call from as far as a kilometers away. 🫶🏻
Once enough reindeer have gathered at multiple feeding spots, they are moved by using snowmobiles or ATVs toward the feeding fence located near the roundup enclosure.
Additional reindeer are gathered into the feeding fence over the course of several days.
Once the fence is full and no more reindeer can be found in the forest, the roundup day begins. 😍

We are a young and energetic couple from Ivalo, Finnish Lapland.
We are both from Ivalo and have lived here all our lives. Neither has ever had the desire to try life elsewhere and move out here. 🫶🏻
Our journey together started over 5 years ago and soon after meeting it became clear that we have met something very special and unique. ❤️
When Covid-19 came, we both left work and started building a new house and a future together.
Our house was completed in the spring of 2021 and we got married in the August of 2023.
We wanted to create experiences for our guests with the things we do ourselves daily, so we founded our reindeer farm in 2022. 🔥
Samu has spent his whole life working with reindeers and it has become a way of life for him years ago.
When we started dating, Essi was afraid of reindeer even though she had been with horses all her life.
Reindeer were strange half-wild animals whose behavior took a while to get to know.
Since childhood, Essi has spent all her free time with horses, which has also become a way of life too.
The horses were also strangers to Samu from before and he had to start getting to know them also.
Over 5 years ago we combined these two things and now we are living the life of our dreams together with horses and reindeers.
In our free time we spend time in the nature and on the fells around the year. 🔥
We could say that because of Samu’s calmness and knowledge of nature and Essi´s energy and love of animals, makes us a great team. 🫶🏻

In reindeer round ups, large numbers of reindeer are collected from the wild first into a large fence, from which small batches become inside the kirnu, i.e. round fence.
There are many doors in Kirnu, the reindeer are guided one at a time to the desired smaller fences, i.e. offices. All reindeers will be counted. At the end of separations, all the reindeer owner’s reindeer are transported to the desired area. Reindeers will be marked for a reason, so that the same reindeers are not accidentally counted twice in a same year if they come to reindeer round ups twice. 🦌
