Sampo lähti tänään tekemään merimatkaa Kemistä kohti eteläistä Suomea kauniissa auringonpaisteessa. Alus on matkalla telakalle. Jäätä ei ole juurikaan matkan varrella murrettavaksi, sen verran pitkällä on jo kevät ja talven kausi on jo reippaasti takana.

Jäänmurtaja Sampo on tärkeä matkailukohde Kemissä ja koko Lapissa, ja toiminut matkustajajäänmurtajana jo vuodesta 1988. Kemin Matkailun valttikortti pääsi viime talvena myös matkailutoiminnan lisäksi alkuperäisiin tositoimiinsa, kun se piti Veitsiluodon sataman väylän auki samalla operoidessaan matkustajaristeilyitä.

Sampon pikkusisar Arktis toimi viime talven Sampon vara-aluksena ja lähti jo aiemmin tällä viikolla Etelä-Suomeen, jossa sitä myös huolletaan. Arktis palaa Kemiin Ensi talveksi ja aloittaa Kemin Matkailun talvimatkailukauden risteilyillä 2.12.2024. Sampo palaa telakalta kotisatamaan Kemiin tulevana kesänä, kun telakalla tehtävät huoltotoimenpiteet on tehty. Sampon risteilykausi alkaa 20.12.2024.

Sampo käy telakalla 2-3 vuoden välein, riippuen tarkastuksista, korjauksista ja kunnossapitotöistä, jotka alukselle tulee tehdä. Aluksen telakalle vieminen on olennaista mm. turvallisuuden, toimintakyvyn ja aluksen pitkän käyttöiän varmistamiseksi. Nämä toimenpiteet ovat elintärkeitä aluksen operatiivisen luotettavuuden ja taloudellisen arvon säilyttämiseksi.

Icebreaker Sampo Heads to the Dry Dock

Sampo set off today on a sea voyage from Kemi towards southern Finland in beautiful sunshine. The vessel is on its way to the dry dock. There is hardly any ice to break along the route, as spring is well underway and the winter season is far behind.

Icebreaker Sampo has been an important tourist attraction in Kemi and whole Lapland and has served as a passenger icebreaker since 1988. Last winter, Kemi's highlight not only engaged in tourism but also returned to its original duties by keeping the Veitsiluoto port route open while operating passenger cruises. Sampo’s little sister, Arktis, acted as Sampo's backup vessel last winter and already departed to southern Finland earlier this week for maintenance. Arktis will return to Kemi next winter and will begin Kemi Tourism's winter cruise season on December 2, 2024. Sampo will return to its home port in Kemi this summer after completing maintenance at the dry dock.

Sampo visits the dry dock every 2-3 years, depending on inspections, repairs, and maintenance work that need to be performed. Taking the vessel to the dry dock is essential for ensuring safety, operational capability, and the long-term durability of the ship. These procedures are crucial for maintaining the vessel's operational reliability and economic value.

The icebreaker Arktis set sail today from Kemi towards southern Finland. During the summer, the vessel will undergo maintenance and upkeep procedures, and will return to Kemi even more robust for the next winter season.

Arktis is an ice class 1A vessel and is chartered to Kemi Tourism Ltd for the winter seasons. We are finally offering icebreaker cruises to tourists with two different vessels! Sampo, which has been cruising in Kemi since 1988, and the newcomer Arktis, both provide a unique Arctic experience on the frozen sea.

Jäänmurtaja Arktis lähti tänään matkaamaan kohti eteläistä Suomea Kemistä.
