Our bread and butter is Aurora chasing, and this season has been nothing short of amazing so far, but there is so much more to Lapland than those mystical lights in the sky.

We recently went on a little adventure to discover breathtaking views and perfect photo spots to help flex our long exposure muscles. Some spots are well known, others are a bit more off the beaten path. The small streams and rivers throughout Lapland offer great opportunities for photographers to find the perfect long exposure composition.

To capture silky, long-exposure shots of waterfalls, use a tripod for stability and a neutral density (ND) filter to reduce light. Set a slow shutter speed and keep your ISO low with a smaller aperture. Use a remote shutter or timer to minimize shake. These steps help in creating dreamy, flowing water effects in your photos. 🌊📸

The best time of the year for a waterfall adventure is late summer to fall.

Last night was a photographers dream.

The aurora activity was quite good, but the solar wind speed was only around 300km/s but with a very strong and fluctuating magnetic field. This combination gave us a spectacular but slow moving show. It was like a constant explosion of colors just floating in the sky. The northern lights didn’t come and go like they often do, they stuck around for us all night. From just a few minutes after we got to our location to the second we left, auroras filled the sky.

We had two new guides along as well last night, both already experienced photographers, and they showed their talent on their first night out with Beyond Arctic

Today we celebrate Finnish Nature Day! To us at Beyond Arctic preserving and protecting our unique nature has always been a priority. This summer we started a project, where our staff were planting trees. The aim is to create a natural carbon sink and that way reduce our carbon dioxide emissions. Did you know that one hectare of Lappish forest absorbs 4000kg of carbon dioxide yearly? Ref: Suomen Metsäkeskus For the future, our goal is to plant as many (and more) trees as are needed to compensate for the carbon footprint of our tours. We welcome our guests to join this mission too! When participating in our tours you are helping us to pursue our goals and efforts to protect nature.
