Our green wall solutions are ideal for offices wanting to improve health and well-being at work.

This observation was also made by digital recruitment company Jobilla, a company highly invested in finding and unlocking the full potential of its employees and partners.

Why is it so important for us to have a strong nature connection? 🌿

Today, over half of the world’s population is living in urban areas. We are moving further and further away from nature and the nature-centered lifestyle our ancestors were leading.

At the same time, studies have shown that a reduced connection to nature results in a loss in microbial diversity among humans. It has been argued that humans living in cities do not get enough microbial exposure which might result in a weakened immune system.

Kiilto is a Finnish family-owned company that employs more than 1000 people in the Baltic Sea region. The company's goal is to be the most sustainable business in the chemical industry.

When renewing its premises, it was important to Kiilto that the spaces would reflect the company's sustainable development values while also being functional, cozy, and welcoming. Kiilto's new, biophilic, and health-promoting spaces were designed by design and architecture agency Kohina.

Altogether, there are 8 Naava green walls in different parts of the building such as in the cafeteria lobby and near conference tables. The green walls have been arranged to form stunning visual elements that delight as many spectators as possible.

Naava at Arctic15!

We had a great time at the startup-investor conference Arctic15 that ended yesterday.

The ‘Naava Stage’ ended up looking wonderful! During the event, the stage functioned as a platform for many stimulating panel discussions where panelists from all over the world would share their views on interesting, contemporary topics. The overall atmosphere at the event was enthusiastic, positive, and optimistic.

We were also present in the Deal Room, where we got into conversation with people who were interested in our products and made many new connections. The Naava green walls beautifully illuminated the otherwise dim environment while providing visitors with clean and fresh air.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!

Our co-founder Aki Soudunsaari's grin reveals it - the World Economic Forum in Davos last week was a success for Finland!

The first ever Finnish delegation hosting a series of side events at the World Economic Forum took Davos by storm.

The Finnish Flow events were created with the intention of inviting leaders and companies into conversation about topics like the future of well-being, the future of technology, and regenerative placemaking.

During the events, individuals, partners, and changemakers succeeded in extending their networks and gaining new business, investments, and media visibility.

Over 600 guests, 50 speakers, 30 Finnish Leaders, sold-out events, global influencers, product launches, new partnerships – this is the first Finnish Flow in a nutshell.

Team Naava visiting the World Economic Forum!

Currently, our Naava team - this time consisting of a one-man show featuring our co-founder Aki Soudunsaari - is visiting the World Economic Forum in beautiful Davos, Switzerland.

Yesterday, he sent us some photos from Davos that we wanted to share with you. Just look at that beautiful mountain view! 💚

Naava’s home country Finland is well represented at the forum not only in the form of Aki but the whole Finnish Flow team which is organising a series of events at Davos. The events focus on visioning a better and more sustainable urban future and feature inspiring ventures and pioneering leaders.

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022 is taking place from 22 to 26 May. The meeting will embody the World Economic Forum’s philosophy of collaborative, multistakeholder impact, providing a unique collaborative environment in which to reconnect, share insights, gain fresh perspectives, and build problem-solving communities and initiatives.

Fresh Naava Spaces at Pietarsaari Language Immersion School!

Founded in 2003, the Language Immersion School (Språkbadsskolan) in Pietarsaari, Finland is a bilingual school where languages are learned through acquisition rather than conscious learning.

The school was designed to encourage collaboration, communication, and interactivity, which were achieved by implementing diverse learning spaces and by investing in acoustics as well as technology.

NAC Arkkitehdit Oy - the designers of the school - also wanted to invest in connecting the modern learning campus with nature through e.g. implementing sunlight and authentic nature elements into the design. The Naava green walls have found their place right at the entrance of the building, seamlessly integrating into the building.

Systematic Growth is a Swedish investment company that has built company groups within the fields of Advanced Materials, Urban Infrastructures, and Animal Health.

Located in the center of urban Stockholm, Systematic Growth wanted to create a nature-focused headquarters for its employees.

The employees have loved the new Naavanized office and thanks to popular demand, the company has regularly added more Naava walls to the office.

What does tomorrow’s consumer want?

In the international ‘Stuff in Flux 2’ research project, Naava was introduced as a Finnish, nature-based innovation. According to the research report, these kinds of nature-based solutions are and will be in increasing demand among consumers as consumers are progressively turning to offerings that are less exploitative and more regenerative.

Design Forum Finland was one of the initiators of the international ‘Stuff in Flux 2’ research project that studied consumer attitudes and behaviours in our ever-changing world. The aim of the study was to gain insights and guidelines for business, product, and service development.

What else did the study discover?

🌿 Sustainability is no longer a choice - as sustainability starts to become a part of everything, it will ultimately no longer function as a value proposition or competitive advantage

🌿 Value creation moves to the post-purchase stage of the customer journey - post-purchase engagement becomes increasingly important as consumers are becoming progressively attentive to what happens after their purchase

🌿 Increased collaboration between different parties - in the future, significant impact will be increasingly achieved through widespread cooperative actions instead of ‘hero designers’ working alone

Huge research news: Naava green walls have been found to promote microbiological diversity and health among office workers

A 2022 study by Soininen et al. and the ADELE research group has discovered that air-circulating Naava green walls alter the microbiome and modulate the immune system among office workers, having a potential in promoting microbiological diversity and human health in built environments.

The study focused on evaluating the impact of air-circulating Naava green walls on bacterial abundance and diversity on human skin and on immune responses determined by blood cytokine measurements. The study featured human subjects working in office environments who were exposed to the green walls in addition to a control group that continued to work without the presence of said green walls.

After 28 days, both the relative abundance of genus Lactobacillus and diversity of phylum Proteobacteria and class Gammaproteobacteria increased among the individuals who were working in spaces with Naava green walls. These bacteria have been found to be advantageous for skin health, indicating that spending time in spaces with green walls has a positive effect on health-supporting skin microbiota as well as the immune system.

Naava at TEDxOulu! 🌿

Earlier this month, we had the honour of being one of the sponsors at the TEDx event held in Oulu, Finland.

The theme of the event was ‘Spotlight on Health’ and among the speakers were professionals from the fields of e.g. digital health, healthcare innovation, modern learning environments, and linguistics.

Today is World Health Day! 💚

Did you know that over 90% of people breathe unhealthy air resulting from the burning of fossil fuels?

Air pollution significantly impacts our health and the health of our planet. But what can we do about it?

The World Health Organization (WHO) suggests:
a better implementation of urban planning policies, more efficient regulation of dirty emissions, and the banning of highly polluting vehicles. Additionally, individuals who have the option can make a positive impact on the environment by using cleaner burning technologies and fuels for household activities, avoiding burning waste, recycling as much as possible, and walking or cycling instead of driving.

What is World Health Day?

Every year, on April 7th, World Health Day is celebrated. The day focuses on drawing attention to health-related topics that affect people all over the world. This year, the WHO will focus global attention on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy and foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being.

Naava Oasis won a Bronze Sustainability Medal at IFI’s Design Distinction Awards! 🥉

We are very honoured to be among this sustainable, highly innovative crowd of projects that got recognized by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers - IFI.

Naava Oasis is a biophilic, modular, and space dividing office design solution designed by interior architecture agency Fyra and Naava. With Naava Oasis, it is possible to experience the fresh effects of nature where we need them the most - indoors.

In addition to the Sustainability category, Fyra performed well in two additional categories and managed to win silver in the Learning category and bronze in the Commerce category. Congratulations!

What does Naava mean in different languages?

Last week, we published a blog post about why our brand is called Naava.

In relation to that blog post we got interesting feedback from individuals from all over the world informing us what Naava means in their language. Today, we wanted to share these insights with you.

So, what does Naava mean in different parts of the world?

🌿 In Finnish, the name Naava refers to a specific type of lichen that thrives in the northern parts of the world where air is pure and unspoiled

🌿 In Thai, the name Naava refers to water - an essential element of life

🌿 In Hebrew, Naava means beautiful - beautiful like the nature around us

🌿 In Sanskrit, Naava means new - new like the day we wake up to every day

🌿 Due to its delightful meaning, Naava has become a unique and charming first name that is given to children all over the world - in Finland, the name Naava has been given to a child approximately 40 times during the past 40 years

🌿 And in addition to it being a first name, Naava is also used as a last name!

Of course it has to be acknowledged that in different languages, there is a slight variation in the spelling and pronunciation of the word or name Naava. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed finding out more about what our name means in other languages. Thank you all for your kind comments.
