Christmas season in Helsinki begins today! ✨🎁🎅🎄

This year, the opening ceremony can be followed through a live stream from anywhere in the world. The program can be seen live on helsinkikanava.fi, on Nelonen channel’s Ruutu Live and on ISTV.

Christmas season will be opened on the Senate Square according to a renewed concept at 3pm local time with lots of Christmas-themed program and music performances by several top artists. The event will of course also be attended by Santa Claus and Mayor of Helsinki Jan Vapaavuori.

On the Senate Square, several charity organisations will hold their traditional Good Will Market in connection with the opening ceremony, offering Christmas delicacies starting at 1pm.

Due to safety reasons, the Christmas parade will not take place this year, but instead you will find a Christmas-themed Window Path along Aleksanterinkatu and in its immediate surroundings.

Happy Christmas time! ❤️

Happy Mother's Day! Hyvää äitienpäivää!

Beautiful lilacs bloom in front of building D22 in Pikku-Mustasaari, Suomenlinna. Once a sauna, it is now a storage space used by the Naval Academy and a workshop for the caretaker.

We hope that soon you can visit the island in person once again, but for now there is an easy way to tour the island. Go to suomenlinna.fi for a 360° interactive map where you learn about it's storied history and scenic sites.

The much-anticipated Helsinki Biennial will be held in 2021 - hope to see you there! ❤️

Due to the exceptional circumstances across the globe, the difficult decision to move Helsinki Biennial 2020 to the year 2021 has now been made. We believe this is the most responsible option, since we also want to ensure the health and safety of visitors, artists, partners and employees. The inaugural Helsinki Biennial will now take place from 12 June to 26 September 2021.

“The exceptional situation has called attention to the central themes of the biennial; interconnectedness and the mutual dependence it causes. The importance of hope and art has only increased. Although we already miss art encounters, we now turn our gaze to next year when we can let the biennial artists and their works shine fully, creating truly unforgettable experiences for our visitors,” say the curators Pirkko Siitari and Taru Tappola.

Let’s take care of each other – see you on the treasure island of art in 2021. 💗

At the corner of Fredrikinkatu and Punavuorenkatu, in Punavuori.

The Punavuori district, which is the most densely populated district in Helsinki, is popular because of its many cafes and shops and its delightful communal vibe.

Punavuori means "Red Mountain", and it derives its name from the reddish-coloured rocks that can be found in the area.
