Exploring the forests in some long-awaited sunshine. These first days in February when the sun shines for hours on end are something else 😍☀️❄️ Gentle promise of an upcoming spring.
Once again Hossa is one of the snowiest areas in whole Finland and during our week of outdoor explorations two weeks ago, fresh powder was falling from the sky basically every day, making the scenery look exceptionally pristine and revealing the nightly movements of the surrounding wildlife too. Here´s a little compilation of captures from those snowy and adventurous days. 🙂

There´s this really special, restful atmosphere in the woods at this time and the light can be very uniquely blue, especially at dusk and dawn. Here´s a short glimpse from our most recent walk in the park! 🙂❄️
During these darkest days of the year, we decided to head out to sit by the fire and celebrate the fact that from now on, each day forward is blessed with more light. May the solstice and the turning of the wheel bring you love, peace and good fortune in the coming year and don´t forget to slow down every once in a while and absorb the beauty that surrounds us.
Happy Winter solstice!
Beautiful moment by the river, outside of the noise of the world.
Here´s an Australian point of view to Hossa national park and to our guided summer adventures, thank you Meg and John! Slight mistake has crept in the article; we saw a great grey owl one day instead of a snowy owl, majestic bird and a rare encounter nevertheless. 🙂
In a land of 187,000 lakes, the waterways of Hossa National Park are something special.
10 days ago we got to enjoy the outdoors in some pretty amazing conditions as the cloudy and grey November morning turned into a crisp and sunny afternoon. Snowshoes were not required yet and everything was covered in sparkling frost. 😍❄️
Dreamy and calm November days.
Just casually spending the night out sitting by the campfire and admiring the moonlit forest, when all of a sudden a faint green light was spotted on the horizon. In no time, one wave of Auroras after another passed over our heads as we stood there in awe.

Autumn storms have blown the last of the leaves off their branches, leaving the world exposed and chilly. The all consuming grayness and stillness of November makes one reflect on the cycles of nature and its balance, it teaches us about beginnings and endings, beauty and sorrow, darkness and light and how each of them play a vital role in the growth and success of the whole system.
Autumn meets winter.
October views in the marshlands. The eastern border hiking trail is one of the less-known trails in the Hossa area and offers beautiful sceneries varying from dense old-growth forests to vast open marshes.
A few captures from Autumn hikes.
Here´s a little video from a day trip to the humbling Julma Ölkky canyon during the Spring Equinox on the 20th of March. We had a warm breeze in Hossa during this time with day temperatures up to 10 degrees Celsius and all the rapidly melting snow created a really special, almost summer rain –like soundscape under the steepest cliffs. Its´always equally exhilarating to experience these first truly warm and sunny days after the long winter, and this is one of those places that whether it is the first or the tenth visit, there´s always something new to witness and admire.
The past years were devastating for many businesses and travelling was one that was affected the most; changing restrictions and complete unawareness about the future made it extremely difficult to keep things running and stay hopeful, so it was truly heart-warming to have previous guests requesting trips, showing support and come for another visit. Here´s a few pics from a wonderful winter adventure we had last February with a group from France, thank you Stanislas and the rest of you guys! 🙂♥️

It sure was an abundant summer this year and the season isn´t even over yet; years of learning pays off and nailed the big porcini surge this time! Since the beginning it´s been super important for us being able to serve self-collected and preserved local treats to our guests and the felt sense of nature connection that picking mushrooms and berries engenders is a nice bonus. Interacting with the land around us at an intimate level is key to how we see ourselves as business and people.
Here´s a little video from one wonderful week spent exploring Hossa at the end of July with guests from Montana. Our “Deep in the Wilds of Finland” –tour that we have been running for years takes you over vast open mires, through dense old-growth forests and across several beautiful lakes and offers a full immersion to local way of life and the surrounding nature.

For the past couple of weeks nature has provided us its best and we´ve had the privilege to enjoy an exceptionally beautiful summer time. Nothing more rejuvenating than moments spent in the forest or by a lake, observing wildlife and taking in the surrounding stillness.
As we are (quite surprisingly) still waiting for the first new born reindeer to arrive, here´s a little recap from one calves first year of life. Ears were floppy and steps wobbly as he arrived on the 23rd of May last year, but it didn´t take long before he was up and running and started showing his calm temper and friendliness towards people. 🙂
So good to be making some fresh tracks in pristine landscapes, it´s starting to look a lot like winter with all this snow! ❄️😍

The long winter is still persistently holding the surrounding nature in its cold and icy grip here in northern Finland but the summer time being right around the corner, we decided to make a short video about the summer activities in and around the Hossa National Park (opening June 2017) and share some info on our locally guided, exclusive summer tour that we are offering on this beautiful area of clear lakes and pristine old-growth forests. Our 8-day, all-inclusive summer program is designed for small and private groups of 2-8 people who enjoy wildlife, nature & outdoor activities, feel happiest in remote destinations away from big crowds and wish to connect with local people and the way of living. The tour and all the activities take place in and around the Hossa area, and a certain level of physical condition is required as we do 16-18 km daily distances in form of 2 hiking days, 2 days of combined hiking/canoeing, 1 day fishing and picking/collecting the wild foods of the season and 1 optional day in the end when you have the chance to go watch and photograph brown bears in their natural habitat for example. You´ll get to visit our family farm and learn about reindeer herding, have an authentic Finnish cabin life experience with a traditional wood-heated sauna and enjoy delicious meals with a strong focus on local and wild ingredients, which you´ll be foraging from the surrounding forests yourself too. Everything from the equipment rentals, luggage transports and three daily meals are taken care of, so you can enjoy yourself to the fullest and focus on the essential with your local, English speaking guide sharing his passion towards nature & outdoors and taking you to his favorite trails to hike and places to see here on the densely-forested and sparsely-populated backwoods of northern Finland. The price of this all-inclusive trip starts from 855€/person (min.6 people booking) and the departure date for the tour is every Friday between the 26th May and 15th
