Our groups are small (2-6 people) or even private. We also rent our eco-friendly sauna cabin, LapinTintti.

Thank you, dear guests, for visiting us this winter 😍

As we transit into spring, the snow is melting fast, and there are no more chances to snowshoe here. In addition, the nights are getting bright, so there are no more northern lights to see either. The weather is becoming milder, with temperatures averaging around +10C to +20C degrees.

We wish you all a happy summer or winter for our dear guests in Down Under. During this summer season, we offer Nature Walks, Private Wilderness Hikes and Canoeing, perfect for those who enjoy relaxing in nature.

While the Aurora season may be taking a break, we're already looking forward to its return in late August. And don't worry, Snowshoe tours will be back in December! We can't wait to welcome you again 😍

🐻 The spring weather is slowly starting to wake up the bears. This picture is a memory from two years ago when Arto was visiting the wilderness of Muotkatunturi.

Brown bears are found all over Finland except Åland. The number of bears is estimated at 2100– 2250 individuals in Finland. So, it is not easy to see them in the wild because the bear does avoid humans if it catches the smell.

🐻 Keväiset kelit alkavat pikkuhiljaa herätellä karhuja. Tämä kuva on muisto parin vuoden takaa, kun Arto oli retkeilemässä Muotkatunturin erämaassa.

Karhuja esiintyy koko Suomessa Ahvenanmaata lukuunottamatta. Koko Suomessa on arviolta 2100–2250 yksilöä. Niitä ei siis ole helppo nähdä luonnossa villinä, sillä karhu väistää kyllä ihmistä, jos saa hajusta kiinni.

About 5,000 White-throated Dippers winter in Finland, with most coming from northern Norway. An estimated 250–350 pairs remain in Finland to breed. During winter, the White-throated Dipper dives into frozen water to search for food, such as caddisfly and stonefly larvae. Due to its small population size, the White-throated Dipper is considered an endangered species in Finland. Additionally, disturbance and traffic pose threats to the species.

It's enjoyable to observe the activity of the White-throated Dipper, but please remember to maintain a safe distance to avoid disturbing the birds. Did you know that the White-throated Dipper has a beautiful song?

Suomessa talvehtii noin 5000 koskikaraa, joista suurin osa tulee Pohjois-Norjasta. Arviolta 250–350 paria jää pesimään Suomeen. Koskikara sukeltaa koko talven hyiseen veteen ja etsii sieltä syödäkseen mm. vesiperhosten ja koskikorennon toukkia. Pienen populaatiokoon takia koskikara on Suomessa vaarantunut laji. Lisäksi häirintä ja liikenne ovat lajin uhkatekijöitä.

Koskikarojen touhua on hauska seurata, m***a muista pitää riittävä etäisyys, etteivät linnut häiriinny. Tiesitkö muuten, että koskikaralla on kaunis laulu?

Now, several dozen pine grosbeaks visit our feeders, the first of which appeared back from their winter migration in the last week of February. The female-dressed pine grosbeak is orange-yellowish, and the male pinkish red.

March-April is the best time to see a pine grosbeak around our LapinTintti Eco-Cabin. In some years, pine grosbeaks return as early as mid-February.

Tällä hetkellä meidän ruokinnoillamme vierailee useita kymmeniä taviokuurnia, joista ensimmäiset ilmestyivät takaisin talvivaellukselta helmikuun viimeisellä viikolla. Naaraspukuinen taviokuurna on oranssinkeltainen ja vanhan koiraan tunnistaa punaisesta puvustaan.

Paras aika nähdä taviokuurnia LapinTintti mökkimme ympäristössä on maalis-huhtikuu. Joinakin vuosina taviokuurnat palaavat jo helmikuun puolivälissä.

In the middle of winter, moose gather in groups and often come close to our home. Forests provide moose with both food and shelter.

Forests are also essential for us humans. We can relax there and get food (game, mushrooms and berries) for the long winter. Just a 15-minute walk in the forest calms the mind and lowers blood pressure.

Finland, Europe's most forested country relative to its surface area, is also the happiest country in the world. Could our forests be a secret to our joy? So, let's cherish and care for our forests, which provide shelter and food, promote biodiversity, and help us fight climate change.

Keskitalvella hirvet muodostavat ryhmiä ja usein niitä tulee lähelle meidän kotiamme. Metsät tarjoavat hirville sekä ravintoa että suojaa.

Metsät ovat tärkeitä myös meille ihmisille. Voimme rentoutua siellä ja hankkia syötävää (riistaa, sieniä ja marjoja) pitkän talven varalle. Jo noin 15 minuutin kävely metsässä rauhoittaa mieltä ja alentaa verenpainetta.

Suomi on Euroopan metsäisin maa suhteutettuna sen pinta-alaan. Ehkäpä se on yksi syy, miksi Suomi on jälleen maailman onnellisin valtio. Joten pidetään huoli meidän metsistämme, jotka tarjoavat suojaa ja ruokaa, edistävät luonnon monimuotoisuutta ja auttavat torjumaan ilmastonmuutosta.

This winter, we closely observed hazel grouses in the nearby birch trees. We noticed that they primarily feed on birch buds. Interestingly, just a couple of weeks ago, hazel grouses could dig a snow burrow, a behaviour they exhibit to stay warm and protected. However, this task has become challenging as the snow has hardened during the warm period when the temperature has fluctuated below and above zero Celsius degrees.

A male hazel grouse can be recognized by its black throat patch. It is difficult to see the bird because it often hides, so you usually only hear the whistle of a hazel grouse in the forest.

Tänä talvena olemme saaneet seurata pyitä lähikoivuissa, joissa ne ovat syöneet mm. koivujen silmuja. Pyyt pääsivät hyvin lumikieppiin vielä pari viikkoa sitten, m***a nyt se on haastavaa, sillä lumi on kovettunut lauhan jakson aikana.

Pyy-koiraan tunnistaa mustasta kurkkulapusta. Pyytä on vaikeaa nähdä, sillä se piilottelee usein, joten yleensä metsässä kuulee vain pyyn vihellyksen.

The pygmy owl is the smallest owl in Finland 🦉 It is a little bit bigger than Bullfinch. This bird visited our LapinTintti Eco-Cabin regularly in the autumn and early winter with its partner. Despite the size, the Pygmy Owl is a strong bird. Arto once witnessed a Pygmy Owl carrying a Bullfinch! 💪

Suomen pienin pöllö, varpuspöllö 🦉, on hieman isompi kuin punatulkku. Tämä yksilö oli kumppaninsa kanssa säännöllinen vierailija LapinTintti -mökkimme ympäristössä syksyllä ja alkutalvesta. Koostaan huolimatta varpuspöllö on vahva. Arto todisti kerran varpuspöllön lentävän punatulkku saaliinaan 💪

Our Story

AT NATURE was founded for our passion for arctic nature. We live in the edge of the Muotkatunturi wilderness area, Lemmenjoki National Park and an ancient taiga forest. Part of our property is a young forest (over 70 years old) and the other part has a small lake, mires and hundreds of years old pine trees. Among other birds Siberian Jay and Siberian Tit (typical old forest birds) are our neighbours.

In our opinion nature activities can make us happier and healthier in today’s busy world. With us, you enjoy and learn about arctic plants and wildlife, local super food, authentic Finnish traditions still practiced today, silence and tranquillity around us. We are a small team and our dogs belong to it too.

Our mission is to introduce arctic nature to nature lovers around the world. We are a family-run business and we offer our outdoor activities to small (1-6) and private groups. Some of our activities are accessible as well.

We share our experiences also via social media and blog so everyone can learn about pristine arctic nature, its benefits and threats to it.
