🟢Bune/Ko [English name - Golden Dove as its features illustrates].

Here's another beauty that you can spot in Colo-i-Suva Forest Reserve/Forest Park. It is endemic to Fiji.
Moreover, if you hit the road up to the hinterland of Vitilevu, you will surely see one or two flying across the road, especially along the Nadarivatu and Monasavu road!

This beautiful specimen is called Kuluvotu or Fruit Dove. It was caught relaxing this afternoon by a Chinese Bird Photographer just infront of the Forestry Office in Colo-i-Suva.
It could be found in most of Rainforest and Upland Forest across most big islands of Fiji.

Fruit Doves are generally endangered to critically endangered around the world due to habitat destruction, and hunting.

Kuluvotu could be found extensively by residence living close to the Colo-i-Suva Forest Reserve even as close to the porches of their homes. This is one benefits of having a Protected Area/Forest OR Forest Reserve where Biodiversity are protected and flourish.

Highland Excursions Fiji strongly believes that the highlands of Viti Levu are one of the most peaceful and tranquil places in Fiji. That's why we want to promote it to tourists (and even the locals). Unfortunately, some people and even the highlanders (at least the majority of them) think otherwise. For generations, they have come to believe that the gold & white sandy beaches and the blue crystal lagoons are the only places tourists come to Fiji for. However, we want tourists to experience a different side of Fiji and not just the usual postcard that everyone is familiar with.

We urge you to change this perception by visiting these places and making the highlanders believe that where they live and have been surviving for generations is also beautiful in its own right! There is absolutely no need to build fancy 5-star hotels. No need to transform their villages. Tourists and visitors need to experience the way highlanders live right where they are. In this way, tourists and visitors will experience a raw and authentic Fijian lifestyle.
