Visit a gorgeous reef with incredible coral diversity. This place is very special. We have numerous repeat customers, and no one has yet been other than extremely impressed. We take a maximum of 5 passengers, and the day is as flexible as they choose. The area is quite remote and other boats and people are rarely encountered.
It really is a snorkeling paradise with generally mild currents, no deep, intimidating drop-off into the unseen, and the respite of an exposed sandy bank to take a break after the swim over the coral reef. And the bay itself, the longest in the Fiji, is very picturesque.
Many have commented that this was the highlight of their stay in Fiji, and for some, the best adventure they have ever had, period.
COSTS – FJ Dollars
$400 –to cover up to 5 passengers
Safety: Currents are not strong, and the dive boat remains moored nearby. We have rescue floats, and experience using them. Those who want to free dive do so at their own risk; it is always best to dive in pairs regardless. This trip is suitable for those with some snorkeling experience, but for those with little experience we provide an accompanying guide who will swim with a floatation device – just let us know beforehand, and wearing a life jacket is always an option too.
We travel out in a stable 22ft aluminum boat, taking an hour or so to arrive under normal weather conditions. Snorkelers are given at least 3 hours to swim over and around the reef, rest up on the sand bank or boat, and have lunch on boat. It takes a little longer to return home because while guests are having some refreshments and talking about their day, we try to find out if the Spanish mackerel are biting. If time permits, there is the option of snorkeling a second reef nearer home.
We provide some light refreshments and nibbles. If you choose the light lunch ($12/head), let us know when booking - we can generally account for most food preferences, intolerances or taboos. We provide an Esky so you can bring your own drinks and eats and keep them cool.
What to bring
Your own snorkeling gear generally fits best, but if you do not have these we can supply masks and snorkels, and will generally be able to find suitable flippers. The water is usually 26-28C. Not many use wet suits, but a thin version can help with buoyancy and keeping swimmers comfortable; these are not provided.

$150 covers 3 persons ($50 per person)
$160 covers 4 to 5 persons ($32 -$40/person)
Surcharge for mask & snorkel $5, flippers $5, if that option it taken, (or bring your own) – most just wear a life jacket and enjoy the scenic trip without getting their heads wet.
Salt Lake is unique: There is not another in the tropical isles of the South Pacific. Tidal seawater flows up Salt Lake creek to a small lake with a tiny island in the middle of it – some call it Cannibal Island since it was known as a quiet respite for chiefly picnics in days long past. The mangrove-lined banks support all sorts of life including mangrove jacks (tropical snapper) and mud crabs. A variety of reef fish can be seen too - colourful parrot fish and trigger fish live in the creek as well.
To float alongside submerged tree trunks and tangled areal roots as the current takes you through the mangrove forest lined creek, is for many, an unforgettable experience.
We leave from, and return to, a site where there is a change shelter, and a fresh water shower to rinse off. We can securely store any valuables while you are in the creek.
How did this feature arise? According to an experienced geologist, the tidal stream follows the path eroded by larval flow; scouring marks can be seen on some of the rocky banks and the lake is the remains of a small caldera. Salt Creek is more an extension of the ocean than it is an outflow for collected rainwater.
What to bring: Your sunscreen, towel, and a change of clothes if you like. Reef shoes are optional too.
The tidal current does all the hard work for you. The water is generally 26 - 28C (78-80F). We supply your life jacket so you can comfortably stop anywhere along the creek without so much as treading water.
Safety: this trip is suitable for all those comfortable in the water, adults and kids. It is fun and not physically demanding. And the support boat is never far away.
Please EMAIL or CALL a day or more ahead, if possible. Trip schedules are dependent on tide times. Transport options to Salt Lake Creek can be organized, if required.
