Battle of Normandy Tours A private tour guide service based in Bayeux for visits to the D-Day Landing Beaches and other West

For people wanting to visit Normandy but haven't yet, most specifically the Pointe du Hoc, don't delay much longer. This autumn the ABMC who manage the site will be fencing the whole place off. From 2019 onwards, gone will be the days of being able to explore the bunkers, walk through the craters and explore any part you want, and no one will be allowed off the paths. Don't blame the French! The ABMC is part of the US government.

It'd be nice, but little chance.

I’VE not yet seen the film Darkest Hour but look forward to watching it. Gary Oldman deserves his Oscar not just for the incredibly realistic…

Staff Sergent Lenoard Lomell, died aged 91. Sgt Lomell led his men up the 100 foot sheer cliffs at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy on the morning of June 6th 1944 to assault the heavy gun battery that the German Forces occuping France had positioned there. The battery was perfectly positioned to rain fire down on the offshore US support fleets, but when the Rangers reached the top they found the bunkers empty. Through a mixture of luck, ingenuity, and good soldiering Lomell and a buddy found the guns about half a mile away from their positions hidden in an orchard. Disabling them, they completed their mission denying the use of the guns to the Germans.
