Today is the Fete du Muguet - lily of the valley - in France. For almost 500 years, it's been a tradition to give these pretty flowers to those you love, friends & family. It all began in 1561 when King Charles IX was given a sprig on 1st May & thought it such a lovely idea he gave the flowers to all the ladies of the court for May Day the next year & the habit became part of French history...

This is ..... Marjorie!

Last year, a very charming lady from Brighton asked us 'Has that woman a name?', pointing at a sculpture overlooking the pool. No, we said on which she asked whether we would mind calling her 'Marjorie', after her.

Marjorie and her lovely family were staying at our gîte last year and it was so nice having them around .....so how could we refuse not calling the sculpture 'Marjorie'?

The sculpture was made by the late Chicago born artist Edmund Ashby, who was a celebrity in this part of France

We have some availabilities again in July so please feel free to contact us for dates during this period if desired.

Our stunning Californian lilac tree (Ceanothus) in full characteristic blue flower. The genus is native to North America but does very well here in the Dordogne!

The first day of the astronomical spring has arrived at Loups d'Or, a day early because 2024 is a leap year!

The vernal equinox, that moment in the year when the Sun is exactly above the Equator and day and night are of equal length, actually arrived yesterday.
