Coming home tonight, from a busy day guiding in the Ypres Salient, I saw this beautiful sky as I came into the village.

In Fond Remembrance.

One of my favourite views but saddest looking from the Lochnagar crater to the Tara Usna hill.

From 2015....Earlier today a lovely scene with the beautiful poppies in the field next to Beaumont Hamel military cemetery. Taken from the lip of the Hawthorn Ridge mine crater. So many Lancashire Fusiliers are buried so close to where they left the famous Sunken Lane on July 1st 1916.

Les Alouettes & Fairbanks & our WW1 pilgrimage Tours.

Hello, we are Vic and Diane and we will be your hosts at Les Alouettes, a B&B on the Somme and our recently built self-catering cottage, Fairbanks.

We both have a deep love of the battlefields and spent many years visiting them before deciding to make our home here on the Somme.

Before embarking on our French careers we had very different jobs. I was a journalist and Diane was an accountant. Nothing against these professions but after a number of years we decided we needed a change! And we certainly did that……..
