The first event of the summer is almost upon us!

The weekend of the 14/15th April sees to opening of the marais communal at Le Poiré sur Velluire. Cattle and horses that have been in winter quarters are let out to graze and frolic and do other things on the rich pastures of the reclaimed marshes. This is a tradition of very long standing and the natural feeding and free-range life of the cattle go some way to explain the high reputation of beef from this area.

The event will be marked by a weekend of activity including organised walks on the marais, a farmers' market, meals, a bar and even a spot of dancing into the evening. Anyone who would like an insight into how tradition is being preserved (even possibly slowly improved) could do worse than to travel into the South Vendée and take a look.

Easyjet have added London Southend to their list of summer routes to Bordeaux, one of several airports that are very convenient for the Vendée! Flights arrive / depart on Friday, so are ideal for guests at Les Roches (Friday changeover).
