RETIREMENT NOTICE! Having reached the grand old age to receive my UK pension, I have finally hung up my guiding helmet and gloves. Having had an immenslely enjoyable 10 years cycling in all four corners of France (and the middle) and had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful, interesting people from around the world, it is time bring the 'Grand Tours' to an end.
I will not be giving up bike riding altogether though - far from it - and I will still be representing Belle France for their lovely self-guided tours in my region, the Charente/North Dordogne.
I want to say a huge "Thank You" to everyone who has been on a tour, all the hotel staff that I have met and anyone else who has encouraged me along the way, I couldn't have done it without you - obviously!

The Amazon comes to the Loire

Where can you walk through an equatorial rain forest in France? Answer: in the grounds of Château de Chaumont. A large part of the 21-hectare park has been landscaped into a permanent garden display and plays host to the International Garden Festival (from April to October) showcasing the extravagant efforts of contemporary garden designers. With the formal park commanding panoramic views over the River Loire, the Belle Epoque stables housing various art exhibitions, the numerous cafés and restaurants - not to mention the Château itself, it is easy to lose yourself for a whole day! Just don't forget the pith helmet and insect repellent in the summer months!
