Well....can't complain! Our last 2 weeks this year have just been booked, by new people which is lovely. And we have already booked 4 weeks next year, with returning guests.
We just need this peculiar weather to settle down and everything will be perfect. One good thing about the nonstop rain in the spring though, the millstream is still flowing!! 😄 👌

The sun encouraged an early morning walk with Rascal and we found these wild snakeshead fritillary. More flowering than usual, probably because everywhere is still wet after seemingly continuous rain for weeks.

RASCAL UPDATE again!
Good checkup, basically the vet is pleased. No infection, no inflammation and the lens is secure. We can leave his cone off IF we are with him. Until next Friday when it can be dispensed with. Dr B is convinced that his left eye has better sight and I think he is right, but it's not astounding. Just a bit better. I really think the major problem is either the optic nerve or, more likely because of his eye flickering problem, some brain damage. But we'll see how he progresses. At least the cataract has gone so there's no threat to what sight he's got. The next HUGE question will be, do we do the right eye ??? Oh blimey 😳

RASCAL UPDATE
Back in Blaye for 2nd checkup. Fingers crossed. I'm not convinced he can see more, but we'll find out shortly ...🤞🏻

RASCAL UPDATE 2
He's home with a bucket on head and lots of tablets and eye drops. But he seems OK and apparently there is no problem with his retinas !!
So, it's possible the problem is his optic nerve and will remain a problem, just a clearer one. 🤷‍♀️
Or his sight could be much, much better🤞🏻 No clue at the moment. We have a checkup booked for Wed morning. xx

RASCAL UPDATE...
For our guests and his friends,
The vet just called, Rascals surgery went well. he removed all the old lense and cataract from his left eye and got a new lense in ( which was his concern originally). He's given him an anti inflammatory injection close to his eye and he's recovering slowly. Dr B said ring at 6 to get an update. Phew...what a relief. He'll come home tomorrow with a bucket on his head and eyedrops for 3 weeks 🙂 x

⭐️FREE TO GOOD HOME⭐️: 2 year old child. Genuine reason for re-homing: We just got a new puppy so no longer have the time for the child.
We think the puppy might one day be allergic to child and are also worried the child might bite the puppy. Child also tortures puppy by pulling its tail. Child is potty trained, though with occasional accidents and up to date on all shots. Needs a home by tomorrow or it'll be put to sleep. Thanks!

YOU WOULDN'T DO THIS TO A CHILD SO WHY DO YOU SEE IT AS ACCEPTABLE TO DO IT TO AN ANIMAL?

If you can't dedicate 10-15 years to a dog then don't get one! A pet is for life, not just for Christmas...Please think twice about getting a pet for Xmas .
Make sure you are prepared for it!!!!!🐶

Rascal Update
Good afternoon
Some good news for Rascal, but I'm not getting too excited. The movement in his eyes stopped when he was deeply anaesthetised so surgery is possible. And the vet did loads of tests on his retinas and can't find a reason why he can't see. So....its POSSIBLE ( only possible ) that once the cataracts are removed his sight will be much better.
Its a big step and he'll have a bucket on his head for 3 weeks, lead walks only, keep calm etc etc......but he's booked in for first eye on 12 January. We can but try.

For all our lovely Chez Meunier guests who know and love Rascal, a bit of news.
Not bad news!!!
Well, not good either I suppose🤔....we took him to an opthalmic vet near Bordeaux on Friday and were in there over 2 hours. The mystery of his flicking eyes is not yet solved, but what we have discovered is that he has very serious cataracts 🤨 The images on the vets computer screen looked just like the awful adverts for blindness in children in Africa. It was a real shock.
So, Rascal is going in next Tuesday for a general anaesthetic, so the vet can look right into his eyes to try to see what other problems are there, but also to see if the flickering stops under anaesthetic. If it doesnt they obviously can't operate.
But hopefully it will stop and we can at least get rid of the cataracts. He was so good, he had to have drops in his eyes every minute for 20 minutes and hated it. But he didn't growl or bare his teeth once, just backed away.
I really hope we can help him. So Friends of Rascal😅 keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻🙏 Maybe he'll be able to see you, next time you come😃x

Well, the suns still shining and it's glorious.October and 24c. But still no rain, which is a worry. The mill stream and Le Né are bone dry, so I do hope we get some rain soon. I worry how the deer manage.
No guests now til next May, but 8 weeks booked already for 2024. And...I cant quite believe it, but we're up to 52 x 5* Reviews on simplyowners.net!! (Well, actually 1 of those is 4*) I wonder if that's a record 🤔?😄
So thank you everyone for your support and "see you in '24" hopefully 😊
