In Malaysia, the celebration of Deepavali is not only confined to the homes of those celebrating it.
The festive mood is apparent in shopping malls, where the store premises are also decorated with bright colors and lights.
Another must-have feature of Deepavali is the decoration of the kolam. Kolam is a form of decoration or design that is made using chalk powder or rice flour to produce geometric designs including curved loops, dots or symmetrical patterns.
Some families usually perform prayer rituals and visit temples to offer their prayers. Some also took the opportunity to visit relatives and close friends. And where the gatherings are, you can always expect great food!
One thing that is synonymous with Deepavali that is a staple in Hindu homes during this season has to be murukku, the crunchy and salty snack. Derived from Tamil, the word means “twisted,” which perfectly describes its coiled, twisted shape.
