The cottage is surrounded by stunning countryside filled with the famous Limousin cattle and is 8 mins drive to the pretty, medieval town of St. Yrieix La Perche where there are banks, bakers, restaurants, cinema , supermarkets,and a new water leisure centre with water slides. There is also a laundrette and several bank cash points and a market every second and fourth Friday of the month.
Every Thursday evening during July and August is the ‘Marche Nocturne’, where you can sit and dine, enjoying local produce being prepared for your evening meal and live music. In July and August, St Yrieix hosts a classical music festival. On the 14th of July there is a stunning free firework display on the plan d'eau.
The surrounding area offers fishing, canoeing, walking, cycling, horse riding, golf, swimming, gold panning and tennis. There are beautiful villages and towns to visit such as St Jean de Cole, one of the most beautiful villages in France and Brantome, known as the Venice of Perigord Vert. There are many fascinating chateaux to visit and explore. Visit the historic caves at Grottes de Villars and Lascaux. At Arnac Pompadour you can see the French National Stud stables and a beautiful chateau. Segur le Chateau, another ‘beau village de France’ was featured in the ITV programme called ‘Little England’. Jumilhac-Le-Grand, a great place to sit in the square and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine whilst admiring the fantastic 12th Century fairy-tale Château.
For longer days out, there is Perigueux a beautiful Roman and Moorish town which has a weekly market and also there are the attractions of the River Dordogne which are about 90 minutes away with Sarlat and Domme and other places to visit.
