Happy New Year!!
We've been able to upgrade furnishings at the gite over the winter: the second bedroom now has twin singles (instead of a double), the lounge has a 50" tv, and the mezzanine has a more comfy single, with a second pull-out bed option. If you include the sofa bed, we can now cater for up to 8 adults plus a baby. :)

Happy New Year from Saint Pierre des Thermes. We have some lovely french visitors celebrating their Nouvelle Année here, in front of the fire. Looking forward to being able to welcome lots of new visitors over 2021.

We've been surprised by the success we've had with the gite so far. Considering the very unusual start to the season, we've had plenty of bookings, all via airbnb. All french guests, mostly in the area to visit the Puy du Fou. We continue to equip and improve the property, depending on guests requirements and comments. Our first English guests arrive in September (although international events may take over before then!).

With finishing touches mainly complete, we have now taken a couple of bookings.
We are back, just adding the finishing touches .....

We only have outside photos at the moment, as confinement doesn't allow us over to St Pierre to finish off the interior, and take photos :(

Information
Situated in St Pierre du Chemin, a village in the East Vendée known for it’s pink stone, the house is walking distance from the historic church, a boulangerie, a bar-restaurant, a pharmacy, a grocery, bank facilities and a park. La Chataigneraie is a pretty town (just 5 mins drive), and well served by a variety of shops, bars, restaurants, banks, post office, schools, medical facilities, an impressive array of sports clubs and facilities, including 3 major supermarkets.
If you need something larger than a standard SuperU or Lidl, the nearest market town with a wider variety of supermarkets, weekly markets, rail links, 6th form colleges, and other amenities is Fontenay le Comte 15mins. The nearest cities are La Roche sur Yon, Niort, Cholet ,all approx 60mins, with their historical centres, lovely shopping areas and even wider range of amenities expected of a city.
St Pierre du Chemin and La Chataigneraie are in the geographical region known as the bocage, characterised by small fields, ancient protected hedges, streams, ponds, pollarded oaks and rolling green hills. This environment is an excellent habitat for birds, insects and small mammals, nature lovers will find plenty to enjoy.
For travel links, La Chataigneraie is 3.5 drive hours from St Malo, 6 hours from Calais. There are 3 airports within 1.5 hours drive: Poitiers, Nantes, La Rochelle . La Roche sur Yon, and Poitiers have TGV stations with links to Paris and the south.
The closest coastal resorts are around 1 hour 20, good for day-trips to the beach, La Rochelle and the Isle de Ré have the same driving time. The Vendee enjoys the same sunshine hours as the mediteranean coast, without the stifling heat, and benefits from the gulf stream effect, so has a relatively dry warm climate.
Twice voted the worlds best theme park : the multi award winning Puy du Fou is 35 mins away. Futuroscope is 1h20. Venise Verte 45mins. Loire wine houses offering tours in Saumur 1.5 hours, or in the Layon valley 1h.
