Chez Lussaud is a beautiful 300 year old private hamlet located in the southern tip of the Charente. Set in 8 acres of gardens, woods and open spaces, it is the perfect place to kick off your shoes, relax and take in the views. There are two gites, each with their own private garden and pool access.
Comprising of two very comfortable ensuite bedrooms with walk-in showers. In addition, the mezzanine with its quiet reading area provides a sprung mattress sofa bed for additional two guests if required. A good nights sleep is paramount for our guests, the master bed is a super king with a quality deep sprung mattress.
Upstairs in the Loft Chambre, the zip and link bed with deep sprung mattress and topper can be set up as either a super-king or two 3ft singles. (Please advise your preference on the booking form). We provide good quality 100% Egyptian cotton bedding and towels free of charge.
The cottage has a large fully equipped country kitchen with a wood burning stove providing the perfect area to dine and entertain. The dining area has a farmhouse table, and the dresser contains a wide range of glassware and a 8 place setting of beautiful Denby crockery, including serving dishes and oven to tableware.
There is dual aspect lounge with sublime views down the valley cross cornfields on one side and an enclosed private garden to the other. Traditional terracotta floors ensure the cottage is cool in the summer months, while an open fire ensures a warm and comfortable evening when staying off season.
Equipped with a flat screen tv, Freeview UK satellite channels, and comfortably furnished, the lounge provides the perfect area to relax after a day out exploring. In addition the cottage has full central heating and includes a complimentary basket of logs, perfect for those out of season breaks.
The private garden with traditional stone walls, large terrace and soft planting has steps up to a large lawned area with fruit trees, providing shade and seating areas to relax and take in the peace and quiet. To the right, the cottage garden has a secret ... an enclosed walled garden with climbing roses, a palm tree, an olive tree and an abundance of herbs. Wooden doors from the walled garden open out onto a lavender lined pathway giving you your own private access to the 10x5 metre pool and views up the Chatignac valley.
La Maison du Charpentier (The Carpenters House)- Sleeps 4/6
A large traditional Charente farmhouse with two comfortably furnished ensuite bedrooms. The master bedroom has a beautiful hand forged iron four poster bed with a deep fully sprung super-king mattress and topper. The second bedroom Le Jardin Chambre has a french corbeille bed with a deep king size sprung mattress. Good quality cotton bedding and towels are provided for your stay. A sofa bed can be provided in the Couloir for up to two additional guests if required.
A large newly refurbished and fully equipped traditional shaker style kitchen provides a wonderful place to cook, eat and socialise. There is a 2 metre long oak kitchen table, ideal for your traditional french breakfast each morning, with views down to the woods at the bottom of the garden. With a Jotul wood burning stove and two traditional french armchairs, it is also the perfect place to pause with a glass of Bordeaux while your evening meal is in the oven.
The main entrance from the courtyard and the heart of the farmhouse is 'The Couloir' which is steeped in history and was the former meeting place for the hamlet. Every room in the farmhouse leads off the Couloir and there are large Charentise doors at each end. To reflect its history we have turned the Couloir back into a dining room, with its polished oak floor and a large refectory table seating 8, it is ideal for get-togethers with family and friends, and the perfect place to enjoy Christmas or a celebration dinner. With both tables you can easily seat 14, particularly useful if you are a family renting both gites together enabling you to socialise together, but still enjoy your own space. In addition there are two quiet seating areas at each end of the Couloir, one end has a sofa bed which can be partitioned off with curtains.

Leaving the Couloir from the back doors you will find a large chestnut tree and gravelled area with comfortable seating, perfect for enjoying a bit of shade from the summer sun, or watching the sun go down over the pool. Your garden area extends with a large lawned area up to the pool house, giving you your own private access to the pool. Just across from your kitchen door is a large terracotta terrace for out door dining with table and chairs and a brick built BBQ area
Pool - The pool is 10m x 5m with a depth ranging from 1m up to 1.80m in the deep end. Equipped with sun loungers, parasols and a cabana, we also provide pool towels and pool baskets for your stay. The pool is shared with one other gite.
Pétanque - there is a Pétanque court and boules for your enjoyment.
Parking space is provided for two cars at each gite.
Chez Lussaud is situated next to the pretty village of Chatignac with its active events calendar, tennis court, mini golf area and pétanque court. Within 3kms is the beautiful village of Brossac with restaurants, a village store, bakery, butchers, tourist information, hairdressers and a launderette, as well as a large swimming lake with water sports, mini golf, a clubhouse and an active social calendar throughout the summer.
Surrounded by beautiful villages, Chez Lussaud is perfectly situated to explore the local area, by foot - there are numerous walking routes for all levels, or you have the quieter country roads if you prefer cycling. With stunning views and open skies, it is also an artists paradise! Not to mention ornithologists and due to its location, the skies have no ambient light at night - perfect for a budding star-gazer!
The market town of Chalais is within 7km and encompasses all the amenities associated with a medium sized town, including two large supermarkets. The Chateau des Tallyrand - a Relais Chateaux with a drawbridge has an excellent restaurant. There are numerous other restaurants in the local area to cater for all tastes.
Being on the border of departments of the Poitou-Charente, Charente Maritime, Gironde and the Dordogne, Chez Lussaud is centrally located for a wide range of interests and days out. The cities of Bordeaux (1 hour) and Angouleme (35 mins) are definitely worth a visit. Royan (1 hr 10) is a picturesque seaside resort with long, flat sandy beaches and safe swimming areas. The ‘beaux village’ of Aubeterre sur Dronne (20 mins) with its cobbled streets, restaurants and local shops is a must for any visitor. Cognac (Golf) and St Emillion are within an hours drive from Chez Lussaud with extensive wine tours on offer. However, there are many vineyards not to be missed in the local area, providing an interesting day out with the added advantage of sampling the finished products - note in particular the local Pineau and Berneuil cognac! Each town has its own market day selling regional produce and there are also many brocantes to explore.

A welcome basket with local Charentise produce is provided on arrival, and when in season, fruit from our trees.
Pets with 'well behaved owners' are welcome (max 2 per gite). Dog bowls and doggy treats provided! Please note that while your gardens are private, they are not fenced off, so leads are required at all times please. We have a large field at the back which is ideal for dog walking. The owners have two very friendly Golden Retrievers.
