Images from a 15 day exploratory ski mountaineering expedition in the Schweizerland region of East Greenland. These mountains were first recorded (drawing them) by Alfred de Quervain and have been little, if at all visited since. Access, like much of Greenland is difficult and logistics are complicated. We were flown in by helicopter and used two separate Base Camps, hauling pulks between them. The weather was mixed with the normal Greenland high pressure not yet established. We mostly found a winter snowpack. It was an incredibly physical and active trip and we achieved so much, summiting many peaks and skiing in wild places. The constant risk of avalanche, crevasses and of course Polar Bears were part of the experience.
Like all these trips it was the people who made it. Thanks to the entire team of Fipu, Danni, Micki, Konrad, Leif, Pat and Celso who were exemplary. Living at 2000m on rehydrated rations, constant melting of snow and other camp discipline is not for everyone.
Ably organised and led by Matt Spencely of Pirhuk - Greenland Mountain Guides whose deep involvement in his local community added such value to this trip.
