Favourite visit so far this year? Uzes in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. A stunning medieval town with lots of great buildings and plenty of restaurants to make your visit a treat. It is close to the Pont du Gard too! https://www.francethisway.com/places/uzes.php

Only a few kilometres from Biarritz and rather overlooked by visitors because it is not on the coast, Bayonne has a charming historic centre to explore with an impressive cathedral

I wouldn't really say that Tonnerre in Burgundy is the most interesting town in France, but hidden away in the town you can find the Fosse Dionne - beautiful, I wish I could have a copy in my own garden!

Where could we possibly end our 10 week list of suggestions except for the villages of the northern Lot-et-Garonne - there is a reason we choose to live here ourselves! Lovely countryside, medieval villages and towns including Issigeac, Monpazier, Villereal and Monflanquin without having to drive very far, close to Bergerac and the Dordogne...it's got everything except seaside! Start exploring at http://www.francethisway.com/places/villereal.php

Perhaps more out of the way than most places we have recommended that you visit so far, but for week 9 we suggest Cap Ferret - on the Atlantic Coast to the west of the Bassin d'Arcachon and quite unlike most places in France. As well as beaches you can explore the traditional villages such as Le Canon and Le Herbe, and enjoy oysters and champagne overlooking the bay! See http://www.francethisway.com/places/cap-ferret.php for information

Parking is a nightmare and the village is very small but what can I do for week 8 but recommend that visitors to south-east Provence have to include a trip to Eze on their itinerary - it is extremely beautiful and has some of the best coastal views in France! Earlier in the year I posted some photos of the amazing beaches in the south of Corsica, but in case that wasn't enough to entice you I thought we would recommend Corsica as our suggestion for week 7...and the only beach shown has got a cow on it! http://www.francethisway.com/regions/corsica.php

No grand tour of France would be complete without visiting some lovely villages in Normandy so for week 6 we are suggesting that you visit the lovely little village of Veules-les-Roses: certainly not the best known village in Normandy but a great one to discover!

Week 5 and the weather is a bit grey at the moment here in France which brought to mind one of our favourite places, idyllic on a sunny summer day if not in grey November: the Gorges de l'Ardeche and also the small river beach at Pont d'Arc at the entry to the gorges. See http://www.francethisway.com/places/gorgesdelardeche.php

Week 4 in our count-down to Christmas of French travel ideas and about time we suggest somewhere in Brittany.
Many of the beaches and resorts in the region are already well known by visitors, so we have headed to the less visited western region of Brittany, to a place that is not on the coast: the very pretty village of Locronan, a charming destination that is well worth heading away from the beaches to visit!
See more info and pictures at http://www.francethisway.com/places/locronan.php

Week 3 in our countdown and about time we suggested somewhere in south-west France so we are off to the Dordogne. I thought I would recommend Perigueux as it is a bit less well known than Sarlat and the places in that part of the Dordogne, so good to try if you have already visited the 'famous highlights' of the department!

Our week 2 suggestion is the lovely village of Yvoire, in the Haute-Savoie department in eastern France. As well as being one of our favourite French villages it is also beautifully situated on the edge of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) so there are loads of outdoor activities close to hand...

There are only 10 weeks left in 2016 so each week from now to the end of the year we will suggest somewhere to help you start thinking about next year's trip to France...not necessarily the best known places in France but each with its own special charm and appeal, and each from a different region of France.

Week 1 suggestion is the lovely villages of Alsace: there are lots of these along the Alsace Wine Route and one of our favourites is Eguisheim: www.francethisway.com/places/eguisheim.php
