AU REVOIR & BYE BYE from MBFF in 2024 !
There is a 20th century theory, popularised by philosopher & mystic Rudolf Steiner, that human life ebbs & flows in 7 year cycles . . .
During these cycles of 7 years, we develop physically and emotionally, seek change, learn new lessons, encounter new challenges, and find new rewards.
The MBFF website and FB page launched in 2017 ( after a couple of years of conception & reflection ) . . . and so by my count, that’s 7 years !
And so it is time for MBFF to turn a page, and to take a hiatus. The website will still be in place until the end of this year, but I won’t be updating any articles or sharing or posting on social media . . .
2023 saw my eldest become a teenager and my youngest will soon hit double digits . . . the boys are less willing to be photographed, and this I understand. And they are becoming more independent, not seeking constant MBFF family adventures - they are developing as individuals !
And in all honesty, I can no longer justify the website costs, nor the hours of research, photography and writing involved - all without an income !
In addition, there’s my conflicted relationship with social media ! I’ve never seen myself as a “ blogger “ ; the MBFF website was always intended as a resource for those looking for family activities au Pays du Mont-Blanc. I understand that FB and Insta are necessary tools for business, and they were essential networks for me too : to share new website articles, to share upcoming events, photos . . . BUT, I am also aware of the dangers of social media, and I don’t enjoy endless scrolling to keep up-to-date with events a-happening au Pays du Mont-Blanc, nor the need to play the hashtag and tagging game to gain LIKES ! Neither do I want my kids normalising social media use ; that has to start with me setting a good example, no ?
That said, WOW, these last years of MBFF have been fabulous ! What a learning curve : web design ( basic, but self-taught ! ), 📷 photography, 🖊️ writing, 🖼️ plenty of museum visits, 🏔️ time in nature, 👨👩👦👦 family activities a-plenty !
From the start I only ever wanted MBFF to be a POSITIVE network, and so I only shared articles and posts detailing activities that we had enjoyed as a family. And as a result ( I think ! ), I’ve always had such lovely, positive feedback from readers.
So, 🙏 THANK YOU readers - your comments and personal messages have meant so very much over the years !
AND 🙏 THANK YOU also : the museums, the activities, the town halls and hotels that offered sponsored FUN over the last 7 years . . .
Ciao,
Fiona & her MBFF family
