Last month, travelers Athena and Don spent a day on a private tour of Dordogne with Christophe, a prehistoric/medieval specialist guide. Here's what they had to say:

"We had a terrific day with Christophe on Friday. We talked the entire day about all kinds of stuff. Very interesting guy. He picked us up at the appointed time of 9:30 and we didn't get back until after 6:00. Quite the full day!"

We know the guides we work with personally and have been on the tours they offer - so we know they are the best and will offer our travelers a memorable and interesting experience. Here, we also share some photos from the tour that we - Émilie and Clélia - did with Christophe last year.

Last weekend, many people across France and Europe enjoyed the European Heritage Days, when many sites that are normally closed to the public open their doors for special visits.

Our Senior Trip Planner Laura and her husband Jean-François visited the Prieuré de Saint Jean du Grais priory, near Azay-sur-Cher in the Loire Valley.

The priory dates back to the 12th century, and it's not far from Laura's house.

"I have driven by it lots of times, and always thought it was so lovely sitting in the fields and the forest, so I was very happy to visit it.

They also set up a bakery, using the bread oven from the 15th century to make fougasse, which we were able to buy. We could not refuse and it was delicious!"

One thing we love about France is all the local festivals that bring the locals (and visitors) together. Last weekend, we enjoyed the "Fête de la Loire" festival here in the Loire Valley.

We (Emilie and my husband Guillaume) enjoyed good food and wine and met some of our friends and neighbours.

Our trip planner Clélia has also been exploring the Loire Valley on her bicycle! She rode from Tours to Villandry and back last week, and enjoyed a delicious meal of 'courgette farcie' (stuffed courgette/zucchini) along the way!

The boat in the third photo is a traditional 'gabarre' boat on the Cher river. We can arrange for you to go on a trip on a gabarre when you visit the Loire Valley with us, if you like!

We will also recommend all our favorite places to eat!

Belvies in the Dordogne/Lot region is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Its gorgeous covered market dates back to the 15th century.
