The grandfather of this family landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was a young private in the 1st Div, 16th reg, 2nd Battalion. His unit went through hell on the 6th of June and he was heavily injured. On photograph the family stands at the same point, where him and many others were given the medical attention. Because the more serious casualties were evacuated as priority towards the ships, he stayed under the cliffs of the German strongpoint WN60 the whole night until he was evacuated by next day. He recovered and later was injured for the second time at the insane battle of Aachen !! Here, he would light up a cigarette in the dark and a sniper shot would go through his cheek and ear.

AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO ????

- John (US Marine Corps Vietman veteran that served during the most hardest years for the Marines in the war 1966 to 1970) comes to the Belleau Wood cemetery "1918" and shouts loud " Didnt know I died Fuc🤬ing 106 years ago" !!! Without searching for it, John was standing in front of a cross of an US Doughboy with the same name that died in the area of Belleau Wood where Marines got their nick name "The Devil Dogs"

John also said:

"when I die, burry me face down, so the whole world can kiss my ass" "and my friends can stop for a "cold one"

(stupid Marines joke.....problem is is , they got plenty of those)

The majestic remparts of Château Vitré (Brittany, France). This medieval forteresse dating back to XI century served as the seat of barons, became an refuge to The Parlement of Brittany, for some years a Huguenot stronghold (protestants), than prison, barracs for the army and in 1820 it was finally purchased by the town of Vitré for 8500 Francs - equivalent +/- 35.000 Euros today money 🤪. It was one of the first French castles to be classified "Historical Monument"

Normandy part 2/3 - should be the bussiest day of the whole comemoration.

All was ready ! our great jackets hand made by #1942 retrodesign. Military collection sold by . Stationed at the famous Calvados place between and

Unfortunately due to the visit of on the 7th, the entire sector of US landing sites was locked off... including us. We were heavily guarded by the French special police (which was very polite and friendy) but did not allow anyone from outside to come to our stand, neither to the Calvados tasting or the restaurant

We were all very, very angry that all our businesses were stoped for the day, but than..... we realized what a beautiful day we had spent together.

Bernard (Calvados producer) tells me "Jozef, I cannot remember when was the last time I took à whole day off like today.... And I cannot remember when was the last time I laughed so much"

Jack Woods - This particular place would see the epic stand of the Easy Company, 101st Airborne. Dressed in summer clothing they were freezing cold, hungry and under constant enemy fire, yet together with other compagnies of the Screaming Eagles and Armoured divisions they managed to defend the important Belgium city Bastogne.
On the photograph: foxholes of the Easy Company, view towards the town of Foy

At the occasion of gathering information about the life during the difficult times of WW1 & WW2 in the Champagne, we had been welcomed into the house of Pol Roger. Here, we had been explained how various members of Pol Roger family went on with Champagne producing, kept the local trade going by printing own "money", were involved in the local resistance and many many more interesting stories. A big "Thank You"

This US cemetery is one of the less know, but unique places with stuning panorama of the entire Paris. Originally a World War I cemetery, it contains the remains of 1,559 Americans who died in World War I and 24 unknown dead of World War II. Bronze tablets on the walls of the chapel record the names of 974 World War I missing. www.privatetrip.fr

Today our great tour of the Somme battlefields ended up at the Compiègne forest where the German representatives signed the armistice of WW1 in the famous train wagon.

During WW2, once France fell, A. Hi**er forced the French leaders to surrender in the same wagon.

Than, from the fear of being humiliated in the same wagon, AH ordered its destruction.

Yet, one wagon coming out from the same series, is on the display at the Compiègne museum...
