Its architectural diversity is truly striking! 🧐 Inside, the focal point is the magnificent staircase attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, reminiscent of the Château de Chambord. The castle also boasts four splendid libraries housing over 20,000 books, including the treasured archives chronicling the saga of one of France's most illustrious noble families. Today, it is owned by Sonia Matossian and her son François-Alexandre de la Rochefoucauld, whose impressive lineage is commemorated in the 16th-century chapel. Among their ancestors are François VI, renowned for his Maxims, and François XII, a co-founder of the Caisse d'Epargne.

Château de Montbrun is a majestic medieval fortress located in the Limousin region of France, specifically in the Haute-Vienne department. Constructed in the 12th century by Aymeric Bruni, the castle has a storied history that reflects the tumultuous periods it has witnessed. Its initial purpose was defensive, guarding the borders of the Duchy of Aquitaine, and it features robust stone walls, a moat, and an imposing keep. Over the centuries, the château endured numerous sieges and battles, including conflicts during the Hundred Years' War. Despite suffering damages over time, it has retained much of its original architectural splendor, showcasing the medieval design with its towering battlements and arched windows.

In the 19th century, Château de Montbrun underwent significant restoration, reviving its historical grandeur while incorporating elements of Renaissance style. Today, it stands not only as a monument of medieval military architecture but also as a residence. The interior boasts period furnishings, tapestries, and artifacts that offer a glimpse into the noble life of its past inhabitants. Surrounding the castle is a picturesque landscape of rolling hills and forests, enhancing its fairy-tale aura. Visitors are often captivated by the serene environment and the château’s storied walls, which whisper tales of knights, nobility, and centuries of French history.

Château des Milandes, Dordogne

25 minutes away.

Soaring above the Dordogne countryside, Château de Jumilhac whispers tales of a turbulent past. This captivating castle, with its fantastical towers, turrets, and slate roofs adorned with lead spires, once piqued the interest of King Richard Lionheart of England during the Anglo-French War.

Located in the charming town of Jumilhac-le-Grand, the castle stands on a foundation steeped in history. Originally a fortified stronghold built between the 13th and 14th centuries, it underwent a dramatic transformation during the Renaissance. Over time, the structure was further remodeled, reflecting the evolving architectural styles and the aspirations of its inhabitants.

Intriguingly, the castle's story is intertwined with the Chapelle family. In 1579, Antoine Chapelle, a prominent ironmaster, married into Jumilhac's noble lineage. Recognizing Antoine's financial backing during his ascent to the French throne, King Henri IV bestowed upon him the title of Count of Jumilhac.

Today, Château de Jumilhac remains a private residence, undergoing continuous restoration to preserve its grandeur. Thankfully, the owners also open their doors to visitors, allowing them to step into this historical marvel and experience the captivating legacy etched in its very stones.
