Hi everyone, we have loads of stock in the shop for Christmas - a lot of newly published books for grownups and children with good discounts, Christmas cards, Book Tokens and our own Gift Vouchers. A couple of our favourites for this Christmas are the grownup colouring books - beautiful patterns and a Harry Potter and Game of Thrones version as well, plus a grownup dot-to-dot book which we can't wait to try!! - and the new Ladybird books for grownups which are very funny and the perfect stocking filler!
We have lots of serious books as well!

Hi everyone,
As we begin the Christmas season I have a special mention for a cookery book called 'Soup for Syria' which is now on sale in The Bookshop. The big hardback book contains wonderful soup recipes contributed by many famous chefs including Yotam Ottolenghi and Anthony Bourdain - great for winter! - and is beautifully illustrated. The whole price of £18.99 will be given to the UNHCR to help them look after refugees in the camps in the Middle East and to feed as many people as possible - no one will make a profit except the refugees who need food and shelter. Please support this cause if you would like to by buying a copy of the book from The Bookshop or any other good bookshop and please pass this message on to as many people as you can. Many thanks. Hello everyone,
I have to go to England from 29th October to 31st October for a family funeral sadly, so the shop will be closed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.
But I will be back on Monday 2nd November and The Bookshop Christmas catalogues will be available from that date - with discounts.....! I will also be delivering the Christmas catalogues aroun the island as usual - I enjoy my evening walks doing the deliveries as long as it is not raining!!
And don't forget the Christmes Shopping evening in town 6 - 8 pm on 11th November - watch this space for further details!

Hi everyone,
There are some great Halloween books in the shop now - all at a 20% discount off the marked price! So a £6.99 book would be £5.50 and so on.....there are new ghost stories, lots of spooky sticker books to keep the kids busy for hours, recipe books for Halloween night treats like Ghost Cake and costume ideas for kids (these are very good value at only £3.99) and all the old favourites like Room n the Broom by Julia Donaldson and even a Babar the Elephant meets the Ghost book!

Hello everyone, I have been away for a short break but am now back in the shop!
We have an event on 16th and 17th October on Alderney when 3 well-known authors of Roman-era historical fiction will be visiting us for the weekend. Ben Kane, Anthony Riches and Russell Whitfield will be leading discussions and showing a film about a walk which they did in 2014 from Rome to Capua in full Roman army gear. They will also be talking about their books and taking part in a booksigning.
All events will take place at Alderney Cinema and there are posters around town with more details.
Tickets £5 each available here at The Bookshop so why not come in or see a poster for more details and get a ticket!!

Hello everyone,
Autumn is approaching and there are a lot of new books being published (with Christmas in mind so far as the publishers are concerned!). Tomorrow (Thursday) sees the publication of William Boyd's new novel 'Sweet Caress' - the story of a young woman Amory Clay who grows up in the 1920-1940s era - and is promising to be a wonderful read. It will be on display in the shop from tomorrow onwards so do come in and have a look!
Lots more new books in the pipeline so I will keep you posted. I'm off to London briefly this weekend (wedding dress fitting for my daughter Lizzy!!) but the shop will be open as my friend Chris is kindly looking after it for me.

Hope you are enjoying the lovely weather and all the fun of Alderney Week!
We have some special deals in the shop now - Alderney DVD 'Battleship Islands Alderney' (a history of the fortifications of Alderney from Roman times onwards) is now only £9.99 so for all those interested in the history of Alderney this is a great deal! Also we have the DVD 'Channel Islands Occupied' (about WW2) for £9.99 as well.
For those who like the Scandinavian murder mysteries - such as Wallander, Jo Nesbo's books etc - we have some newly published titles by Scandinavian writers with £1.00 off RRP so do come and have a look!

We now have a copy of the new Channel Island book in the shop - it is 'Channel Island Houses' by John McCormack and he will be here signing copies of it on Saturday 25 July between 10.30 and 1 pm.
The book is enormous! A lovely hardback book with lots of colour photos in it and details of 163 historical Alderney houses!

Hello everyone,
We are having a booksigning in The Bookshop on Saturday 25 July between 10.30 am and 1 pm. A writer from Guernsey named John McCormack has written a non-fiction book about historical Channel Island houses including some Alderney houses which will be in the book. John visited Alderney last year and went to some houses to research for his book......perhaps he came to your house.....and there are photographs in the book of the Alderney houses.
Do spread the word to your friends and family, don't forget - their house may be in the book - and come along to the Bookshop to have a look.
There is a copy of the book in the shop now to look at.

We have our Summer Beach Reads (inside the shop today for obvious reasons!!) on display with some great new books for only £4.00 each including books for teenagers and thrillers for the guys!
And don't forget the new Bizzy Bear childrens books which are very popular!

As promised we now have the new Harper Lee book 'Go Set a Watchman' on sale in the bookshop for £15.99 (RRP £18.99) - published today! and I have been up all night reading it......well worth it .... and if anyone would like to come into the shop and have a chat about it - no obligation to buy - then you are very welcome to do so.

Hello everyone,
The freight plane has come in and the new Harper Lee book 'Go Set a Watchman' is now in The Bookshop! It will be on sale from tomorrow morning 14th July at £15.99.....so do come in and have a look. Why not get a copy and see for yourself if this book, written in the 1950s but not published until now, is as outstanding as the author's first book 'To Kill a Mockingbird'!

Hi everyone,........when the fog clears and the air freight comes in we will have copies of the new Harper Lee book 'Go Set a Watchman' in the shop (currently in the freight shed in Guernsey ...the story of my life!!).
It is published tomorrow (14th July) and hopefully I will have it in the window first thing in the morning at a special price of £15.99 for the hardback book (RRP is £18.99). So do keep an eye on the bookshop window and if you want to reserve a copy of the book please let me know and I will do that for you.

These are lovely books with lots of flaps to lift, buttons to press etc. while the stories are being read. Bizzy Bear goes on a dinosaur safari, has adventures with pirates and many more! Hello everyone, Hope you are enjoying this lovely hot weather and 1st July is time for the launch of our Summer Beach Reads! We have lots of new paperbacks for only £4.00 each - perfect for reading on the beach, in the garden or wherever you are sitting comfortably!
Also, we have a stock of the new colouring books for grown-ups which are so popular at the moment, including the Crazy Contraptions colouring book based on the wacky drawings of Heath Robinson.
We still have plenty of free books for children from World Book Day and lots of new books such as the new Percy Jackson.

Hi everyone, We now have copies of the latest book by Rachel Abbott in the shop. It is a thriller called 'Stranger Child' and follows on from her bestseller of last year 'Sleep Tight'. Hi everyone, I had a great time at the London Book Fair and got lots of ideas for new stocks of childrens' books which are going to be published soon.
I have some free review copies of some of the books for young people in the shop so if you would like one please contact me and I will let you have a free copy of some really up-to-date new books e.g. for 8-11 year olds a new book called My Brother is a SuperHero!
Also got loads of tips for our next Alderney Literary Festival from the seminar that I went to at the Fair!

Hello everyone,
I am off to the London Book Fair this afternoon - tomorrow I am looking at a presentation of new childrens books so I will come back with loads of new ideas hopefully!
On Thursday I am doing a course on how to run a Literary Festival which should be fun and will give us loads of help for future events! The bookshop will be closed from this afternoon until Friday afternoon.
Looking forward to it all very much - plus I get to see my daughter Lizzy (Lizzy Chase - she may be known to some of you from years ago) which is a massive bonus!! She lives and works in London now.

Hello everyone, hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather and the Easter holiday!
I have some new Channel Island books - firstly, an updated version of 'Orphans of the Storm' which is Royston Raymond's little book about the Alderney residents who were evacuated from the island during WW2 and their stories (this costs £3.50).
Also, I have a reprint of Bunny Pantcheff's book Fortress Island Alderney which has been out of print for a few years but is now available again at £10.99.
Do pop into the shop and have a look at these books - they make ideal presents for anyone interested in the history of Alderney.
I'm off to the London Book Fair on 14-17 April and looking forward to it very much - I haven't been to it before.

Don't forget that we have tickets for the Alderney Literary Festival on sale in the shop and also most of the books by all the authors who are taking part in the Festival are now here for sale.

One of the authors who is coming to Alderney, Marc Morris, has just published (this week) a major new book about King John (1166 -1216, and the king we know from the time of Robin Hood) so for all you history buffs this lovely hardback first edition book is on Special Pre- Festival offer for £21 (normal price £25) - and you can have it signed by Marc Morris at the Festival!

Hello everyone, it's World Book Day today and I hope all the children have enjoyed dressing up as their favourite characters - I think I have seen the Very Hungry Caterpillar in Victoria Street!
