Don’t let the rain stop play ☔️ … at Ford & Etal we have all weathers covered and lots of rainy day activities to enjoy. Maybe enjoy a creative pottery session with RavnClay or visit the stunning Lady Waterford Hall with a series of astounding Pre Raphaelite murals or perhaps learning more about the workings of the Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre and Heatherslaw Cornmill all indoors and great family fun. If you are looking for refreshments close by the Cafe at the Mill is right next door to Heatherslaw Mill and in Ford you will find the Ford Village Shop and The Old Dairy in Ford

We look forward to seeing you soon and if you have any questions let us know in the comments. Happy Sunday

Not long now until these little chaps disappear. So get yourselves on a boat trip!

May your Monday be as productive as a puffin who’s just caught a mouth full of sand eels!

Yes I’m sharing more puffin shots, quite frankly I could share one every day for the rest of the year and still have some left over… but also, I just absolutely love these little guys. They won’t be on our shores for much longer with the next few weeks the last chance to see them before they return next year.

Did you know puffins mate for life? They meet back up with their partner and return to the same burrow every year… how cute is that! They’ll spend their summer catching small fish such as the sand eels to bring back to the burrow to feed their young.

The Grace Darling Museum needs you!

We are looking to recruit more volunteers to join our fantastic team and help share the story of one of Britain's most famous lifesavers. If you can spare half a day per week to help in the museum, or to deliver workshops to visiting schools, we'd love to hear from you!

For more information see our website, give us a call, or drop in for a chat.

You may have your own ‘classic’ view which epitomises what you love about your favourite holiday destination. For us it’s the view down this hill, with beautiful Embleton Bay opening out ahead, Dunstanburgh castle punctuating the view, dead centre and the promise of a pint and maybe even a bite to eat in our favourite pub, . Sitting outside in the sun/ in the rain/ in the cold/ in the wind or cosy inside. Beloved by walkers who may have come from Beadnell, north or Craster/ Embleton south.

Craster is rightly one of the most well loved villages on the north Northumberland coast. Picture perfect, a great start point for some good coastal walks: north via Dunstanburgh Castle and perhaps further on to Low Newton across the vast sandy sweep of Embleton Bay or south, and an entirely different section of coast path, rugged, rocky with some interesting geology towards Howick (bathing house). Points of interest: pick up some kippers from Robsons while in Craster or enjoy a kipper butty from Piper’s Pitch (near Quarry car park; a walk to Low Newton, must surely end with a pint and maybe a good bite to eat at The Ship (everyone’s favourite Northumbrian pub!) - the Ship is always busy, rain or shine, so if you arrive at 12, prepare to queue!; we also love the Stableyard cafe at Craster Tower for lunch, all home cooked and good value ; a meal at the jolly fisherman always feels like a treat (ask for a table with a sea view); be sure to stop off at Eleanor’s Byre (between Craster and Embleton) for a very good coffee and an excellent shop, and maybe even a pizza from Embers pizza 🍕; the post office shop in Embleton has a good little deli counter and stocks lots of local goodies; in fine weather there is no prettier place to sit and eat then the garden of the Dunstanburgh Castle Inn; Howick Hall (no dogs 😞) has splendid gardens with lovely woodland walks to the sea, and, did you know, it is the home of Earl Grey and Lady Grey? (of the tea fame) and they have an elegant tea room, a great place for cake and dainty sandwiches ; look out for Rumbling Kern beach and Sugar sands beach . Another great lunch spot is the Running Fox at Longhoughton Keep an eye out for ( Low Newton, Eleanor’s Byre, Embleton, Longhoughton) where you can exchange your pre-loved books - you never know what you’ll find!
